Jorge Masvidal won’t tell tale of Ben Askren ass-whooping at UFC 239 to his grandkids

Jorge Masvidal’s career resurrection continued last Saturday night (July 6, 2019) at UFC 239 in Las Vegas, Nevada, site of “Gamebred’s” record-setting knockout win over Ben Askren (see it). While impressive, Masvidal says the victory is far from his proudest moment in mixed martial arts (MMA).

“No, not the greatest. It was a really good moment because I got to silence a lot of individuals and one in particular that I didn’t like too much. People were very high on him. But, this is not my proudest moment,” Masvidal said during a recent interview on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

While “Gamebred” doesn’t put it too high up on his list, the win over Askren is still a big one as it could be the one that earns him his first-ever title shot under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner. And if best friends stand in the way, they will get the smoke, too.

Still, for the street fighter-turned professional MMA combatant, his days of talking about Askren are done. And when he is old and gray and sitting around the fireplace telling his grandkids of all of his accomplishments in the fight game, “Funky” won’t be mentioned.

“I have been fighting some animals for a long, long time. Like I said, he doesn’t get mentioned to the grandkids of the ass-whoopings I gave out.”

For now, Askren will play the waiting game as he will be an interested observer when his good friend, Colby Covington, challenges Robbie Lawler at UFC on ESPN 5 next month in Newark, New Jersey. With a win, “Chaos” could very well punch his ticket to his much-desired title fight against division champion, Kamaru Usman.

And if Covington ever manages to hold the undisputed 170-pound title and Masvidal is on deck, the American Top Team (ATT) stablemates have no qualms with swinging punches at each other.

UFC just better be prepared to open up the bank vault.
