The biggest fight in mixed martial arts (MMA) history is in the books, as Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor last night (Sat., Oct. 6, 2018) at UFC 229 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, to retain the UFC lightweight title.
After the fight, an all-out brawl ensued as Khabib jumped into the crowd and started a fist fight with McGregor’s teammate, Dillon Danis. Two other people jumped in the cage and sucker punched McGregor from behind. Police were called upon and the two sides were eventually subdued.
As the biggest event in UFC history, there were a lot of eyes on the main event and chaos after the fight itself. Luckily, Twitter was able to catch some of the reactions from around the MMA community.
Here is some feedback on Khabib vs. McGregor:
Khabib hurts/drops Conor with a big right and now is back on top!!! #ufc229 pic.twitter.com/mEIBGfm3lv

So one dimensional wrestling looks prett effective against a one dimensional striker ♂️ #KhabibMcGregor #slaytheking #wrestlersruletheoctagon

Best quote of the night.
— Corey Anderson UFC (@CoreyA_MMA) October 7, 2018
Cruz: "I wonder why he isnt trying to get up?
Joe Rogen: "Because he's exhausted!!"
Lol good answer @joerogan #UFC229
Khabib’s ability to hook the legs and prevent everyone from getting up is incredible #ufc229

Connor getting away with a lot of fouls tonight #ufc229

I’m sticking with my #AliForeman thought and adding a #ropeadope

Love seeing McGregor get away with illegally hooking Khabib’s glove in order to stall
— Curtis Blaydes (@RazorBlaydes265) October 7, 2018
Mcgregor has committed more fouls than an nba player. 1.) hooking the glove. 2.) pulling the shorts 3.) feet in the cage. 4.) knee to the face on the ground and not even a warning what a joke

Khabibs corner is stressing me out #ufc229

Another historical night. Amazing atmosphere, technical fight with excitement all the way thru. All that makes MMA a great sport. Shame about the ending. On to the next one.

Here is the response to the post-fight brawl:
There’s chaos. Brawls. This is horrible.
— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) October 7, 2018
Watching the @TheNotoriousMMA vs @TeamKhabib fight. Unimaginable never thought it would go down like this. Crazier than my fight riot.
— Mike Tyson (@MikeTyson) October 7, 2018
Hey guys, two wrongs don’t make it right. Conor didn’t deserve that. No one did. But some things aren’t for fight promotion. Religion, family, country. Throwing stuff in Brooklyn. For Khabib it wasn’t fight promotion, it was really personal. Diff culture man. Sucks
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) October 7, 2018
Conor had zero punishment by the UFC when he personally attacked a bus and actually injured innocent bystanders.
— Nathan Quarry (@NateRockQuarry) October 7, 2018
We’ll see if the UFC maintains their standard.
That is if Khabib is enough of a “needle moved”
Sad. Straight up sad. I’m speechless. The biggest night in UFC history is damaged. I feel bad for Conor, Dana, UFC, and most of all for Khabib. He’s worked his entire life for this moment. One millisecond of emotion ruined it all. #UFC229

This fight probably had more eyeballs on it than any other event in UFC history. I wonder what those who don't watch week in week out are thinking right now. #UFC229
— Chamatkar Sandhu (@SandhuMMA) October 7, 2018
One evil doesn't make another ok. Just because a dolly was thrown at a bus and was wrong and he should have been punished doesnt mean that what happened tonight is ok.
— Megan Anderson (@MeganA_mma) October 7, 2018
As a champion, you set a higher standard. You don't stoop to that level. This is not the actions of a champion.
Khabib had the chance to be the bigger man. He didn’t.
— Emil Valhalla Meek (@emilvalhalla) October 7, 2018
Connor should have gotten a harder penalty for the trolley and Khabib should get punished hard because of this. Please don’t ruin our sport... it’s important to us #ufc229
You can't talk about people's families in a world where everyone is raised with different morals and ideologies. It's not a game to everyone and cannot be forgiven after the fight.
— Josh Thomson (@THEREALPUNK) October 7, 2018
This really isn't that bad let's be honest. Conor's crew did this same thing at a Bellator fight not to long ago
— James Vick (@JamesVickMMA) October 7, 2018
Do y’all remember Mac and 30 of his friends raided backstage and threw a dolly at Khabib iNJURING several other FIGHTERS and STAFF. Also throwing mud on Khabibs family , team and country for several months and you think it’ll all be cool?...Now they making Mac the victim here?
— #OnAmission4Gold (@KelvinGastelum) October 7, 2018
Say what you want about Connor, he always says he’s humble in his win and humble in defeat. He literally stood there as khabibs team jumped the fence and sucker punched him from how exhausted he was. This shit is crazy
