The action started off with a bang earlier tonight (Sat., Oct. 6, 2018) at UFC 229 from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as former lightweight Tony Martin put a brutal stop to welterweight veteran Ryan LaFlare via third-round TKO (head kick and punches).
Despite landing some early offense with leg kicks to the body, LaFlare left himself open for right hands almost the entire fight. Martin did well timing his entries and countering on queue. In the third round, Martin caught LaFlare sleeping and mixed it up with a brutal right head kick. LaFlare instantly fell to the canvas and Martin followed suit with a few extra punches before the referee stepped in for the TKO stoppage.

With this performance, Martin locks down his second-straight victory since moving back up to 170 pounds this past April. The 28-year-old veteran is well known for his grappling skills, but we finally caught a glimpse of Martin’s evolving standup game. More finishes like this one should allow Martin to move up the welterweight ranks in 2019.
