Knockout! Watch Derrick Lewis score comeback KO over Alexander Volkov at UFC 229

Derrick Lewis pulled off an improbable come-from-behind finish over Alexander Volkov last night (Sat., Oct. 6, 2018) at UFC 229 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he knocked out the towering Russian contender with 11 seconds left in the fight.

Lewis struggled with Volkov’s length for the most of this fight. He tried to move in quickly to land his power right, but Volkov’s jab busted up Lewis’ eye early and often. More Volkov offense left a tired Lewis staggering around the cage in the later rounds. That was until “Black Beast” launched a desperate right hand. It landed. Volkov’s head snapped back and he fell to the canvas. Lewis followed with ferocious ground-and-pound before the referee stepped in for the stoppage with just 11 seconds left in the third round.

With this performance, Lewis secures another memorable finish inside of the Octagon. Now 9-1 in his last 10 appearances, “Black Beast” would seem to have just locked down a heavyweight title shot. But with current champion Daniel Cormier scheduled to fight Brock Lesnar sometime early next year, Lewis may have to take one more fight before getting his chance at UFC gold.
