Two of the best women’s Strawweight mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters on the planet, Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, hooked ‘em tonight (Sat., Sept. 8, 2018) at UFC 228 inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Both women have competed for the division title in the past, and both women fell victim to former champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Now that she’s out of the picture, this bout was essentially a No. 1 contender eliminator match, with the winner earning a future fight against reigning queenpin, Rose Namajunas. And that honor goes to Andrade, who registered one of the most violent finishes ever in the brief history of the division.

Andrade came out of her corner on fire, clubbing Kowalkiewicz with a flurry of punches. Kowalkiewicz was seemingly rocked, but weathered the blitz well, cleared the cob webs and started to return fire. Andrade, though, kept throwing punches in bunches as Kowalkiewicz tried to circle away from danger and collect herself. Then, out of nowhere, Andrade landed a crushing right hook that put Kowalkiewicz to sleep ... with one punch. It was violent, landing flush on Kowalkiewicz’s chin and putting her down for the count.

Man, that was just ridiculous — one-punch knockouts are kind of rare in women’s MMA ... especially at just 115 pounds. It was the type of finish that will live on highlight reels indefinitely. “Knockout of the Year” potential for sure. Oof!
