Just a day after Max Holloway was forced to withdraw from his Featherweight title fight against Brian Ortega, which was set to serve as the co-main event for UFC 226 on Saturday night (July 7, 2018), event headliner Daniel Cormier suffered a nasty fall while on stage during the pre-fight press conference (video replay).
At the tail-end of the presser, “DC” inexplicably tripped as he was getting out of his seat and took a nasty spill. After a few moments on the ground, the Light Heavyweight champion managed to get up, though it was obvious he was in pain. He was then helped off stage, as he was walking with an obvious limp.
Here’s an extended look:
Cormier managed to walk right back up to the stage for his pre-fight staredown with Miocic, but there is no telling just how bad -- if at all — Cormier is injured.
Let’s not forget, Tony Ferguson suffered a nasty knee injury a few days prior to his Lightweight title defense against Khaibb Nurmagomedov after he tripped on some cords on the ground on a FOX Sports set. In the end, “El Cucuy” had to undergo surgery to heal his wounds.
Let’s hope for Cormier’s sake it’s not that serious. Keep it tuned to MMAmania.com as more details emerge from this latest, unexpected incident.
