What started as a vehicle to promote Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar in 2019 nearly devolved into the Strikeforce: “Nashville” televised brawl after “DC” got shoved by the WWE import in the aftermath of UFC 226.
Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed. And aside from that super tiny guy who kept bouncing off Brock’s legs, no one inside the Octagon — after stepping over the limp body of Stipe Miocic — did anything foolish.
Including longtime Cormier teammate Luke Rockhold.
“I was trying to judge Brock,” Rockhold told Submission Radio. “Brock was coming in hot and pushing ‘DC’ but ‘DC’ kept his composure and he was trying to laugh it off, so… I was trying to judge the situation because I was about to pull a Diaz brother and jump on his back and kick Brock in the head.”
The Diaz brothers (Nick and Nate) are known for their public brawls but to date, have managed to avoid any serious injuries. Perhaps Conor McGregor can take a page out of their book and read up on how to slap and run.
As for Rockhold, he’s expected to make his way up to the light heavyweight division where the field remains wide open. And since Cormier will be hanging up the gloves next March, there’s no reason why his AKA stablemate can’t pick up where “DC” left off.
Unless this guy has something to say about it.
