Safe to say Daniel Cormier was pretty excited after knocking out Stipe Miocic.
Not just because he earned the win — and a boatload of cash — the feat (watch it) also put “DC” in elite company, standing alongside Conor McGregor as the only UFC champion to simultaneously hold championship titles in two separate weight classes.
But Cormier wasn’t the only one jumping for joy. His friends and training partners from American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, Calif., which includes former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, were also losing their shit in the locker room.
Take a look:
Saturday was a great night, but not just for me at the @americankickboxingacademy we are a family. Here is @officialcainvelasquez , @slikbxr and @iamthebay watching the fight in the locker room. The UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which took place last Saturday night (July 7, 2018) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (full results here), set up next year’s Brock Lesnar heavyweight title fight. And Cormier can lean on Velasquez for advice, as the former champion crushed Lesnar at UFC 121 way back in 2010.
