Rising UFC middleweight contender Jack Hermansson just didn’t go away earlier tonight (Sat., May 12, 2018) at UFC 224 from inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when he came from behind to finish former title challenger Thales Leites via third-round TKO.
While the first round was a back-and-forth affair, Leites really took control in the second. During a takedown attempt along the cage, Leites injured Hermansson’s rib and brought the action to the canvas. Hermansson was in visible pain for the rest of the frame but still came out in the third.
That’s when “Joker” pulled off an improbable finish by reversing a Leites submission attempt, gaining top control, and scoring heavy shots from above before the referee stepped in for the stoppage.

With this performance, Hermansson gets back into the 185-pound win column after getting finished by Thiago Santos back in October. Despite breaking his rib, Hermansson was able to push through and find a memorable finish. This should land him another big divisional name the next time he steps inside of the cage.
