Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will try to make his final push towards another featherweight title shot when he takes on undefeated contender Brian Ortega later tonight (Sat., Mar. 3, 2018) at UFC 222 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Remember, Edgar was scheduled to fight current UFC featherweight king Max Holloway in the main event before “Blessed” was removed due to injury.
In order to prepare fight fans for the return of “The Answer,” UFC has opened up its vault and released Edgar’s 2015 clash with Chad Mendes (shown above). The action took place in the main event at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale in Las Vegas. Edgar wasted little time putting a hurting on “Money” when he connected with a short left hook just minutes into the first round. Mendes dropped to the canvas and that was all she wrote, as Edgar cruised to his second knockout finish at 145 pounds.
While Ortega has never lost in his career thus far, Edgar is going to have an advantage on the feet when the two collide in UFC 222’s co-main event. Only time will tell if Edgar’s footwork and hand speed can lead to another scintillating knockout finish like the one above.
UFC 222 will be headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight pitting current champion Cris Cyborg against Octagon newcomer and former Invicta FC champion Yana Kunitskaya.
