Despite having over two years to prepare for his Octagon return, lightweight veteran Gleison Tibau lasted just 57 seconds earlier tonight (Sat., Jan. 20, 2018) at UFC 220 from inside TD Garden in Boston, Mass., when he ran into rising 155-pound contender Islam Makhachev.
While Tibau tried to push the pace early and move in for some offense, Makhachev was able to land a beautiful left hand counter than put the Brazilian on his back. Referee Dan Miragliotta saw enough from just the one punch and stepped in for the 57-second knockout stoppage.

With this performance, Makhachev extends his divisional record to 3-1, losing to only Adriano Martins via knockout. The 26-year-old prospect continues to improve under the tutelage of American Kickboxing Academy and should be considered a legit candidate to enter the lightweight top 15 by the end of the year.
