"Rousey vs. McMann" is estimated to have outperformed "Barao vs. Faber 2" by over 100k pay-per-view (PPV) buys.

The numbers don't lie.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) kicked off its 2014 fight campaign with a pair of numbered pay-per-view (PPV) events taking place within three weeks of one another. UFC 169, headlined by a championship doubleheader featuring Renan Barao vs. Urijah Faber (bantamweight) and Jose Aldo vs. Ricardo Lamas (featherweight).

The estimated PPV buy rate was around 230,000.

UFC 170, by contrast, garnered 340,000 PPV buys with a main event pitting Ronda Rousey against Sara McMann, a 135-pound title fight that saw "Rowdy" drop and stop her fellow Olympian inside the first round. The co-main event featured Daniel Cormier's shellacking of Patrick Cummins.

Dave Meltzer provides context:

That's down from Rousey's first main event, one year earlier, with Liz Carmouche. But the drop is hardly unexpected. The promotion of the Carmouche fight, the first women's fight ever in the UFC, was among the best in company history. There was both among the most media coverage leading to a UFC fight in history, combined with a stirring Prime Time shows focusing on the two women leading to the fight.

The McMann fight did have a hook, the first time two Olympic medal winners had ever faced off in a UFC fight. And it took place the week of the Olympics. But that didn't get anywhere near the kind of media attention the fight a year earlier got. A lot had to do with Carmouche, who promoted the fight much harder than McMann. In the arena for both fights, Carmouche was clearly a far bigger "B side" star in the fight, regardless of McMann's wrestling credentials and undefeated status coming in.

UFC 157: "Rousey vs. Carmouche" topped the 400,000 mark.

It will be interesting to see how the UFC 171 event -- featuring Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler for the vacant 170-pound title -- factors into this equation. What we do know is that UFC President Dana White wasn't exaggerating when he said Rousey was a star.

Which is all the more reason why she may not stick around.

Now that the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared in the wake of UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann," the SB Nation crew has tallied the votes and come up with the 10 best light heavyweight fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today. Have a look.

Sorry Mr. Cummins, there will be no upsets this time.

Unless you count Phil Davis as "upset" that he has to play second fiddle to incoming light heavyweight Daniel Cormier. "DC" makes his 205-pound debut at No. 5 by beating the brakes off the coffee house barista at the UFC 170 pay-per-view (PPV) event earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nevada (replay).

But the fact that he was undefeated at heavyweight probably helped his cause, as well.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is poised to shake up its light heavyweight division in the coming weeks, as "Mr. Wonderful," along with Alexander Gustafsson, Jon Jones, and Glover Teixeira, all throw down at upcoming events, which means the next time we rank this division, it could look completely different.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The SB Nation panel -- compiled by MMA Mania, MMA Fighting and Bloody Elbow -- recently sifted through the Top 10 light heavyweight fighters for UFC and beyond.

Here's what they turned up:

1. Jon Jones
2. Alexander Gustafsson
3. Glover Teixeira
4. Rashad Evans
5. Daniel Cormier
6. Phil Davis
7. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
8. Dan Henderson
9. Chael Sonnen
10. Mauricio Rua

Sonnen has already announced a return to middleweight and Jimi Manuwa could break through by upsetting "The Mauler" next month in London.

Lots of moving parts here, fight fans.

To see how these compare to the "official" UFC rankings click here, which have Cormier ranked at number six as opposed to five right here at SB Nation.

Too high? Too low?

You've heard from us, Maniacs, now let's hear from you. Top 10 light heavyweight fighters are ...

UFC.com has updated its "official" consensus rankings following this past Saturday's UFC 170 event, which includes three contributions from MMAmania.com staff members. Check out the big mixed martial arts (MMA) movers and shakers below.

The latest "official" Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rankings are out with the conclusion of UFC 170, which took place last Saturday night (Feb. 22, 2014) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

See all the results and fallout of "Rousey vs. McMann" by clicking here.

Heavyweight import Daniel Cormier made his light heavyweight debut at number six, thanks to his destruction of Patrick Cummins last weekend in "Sin City." While beating up a regional fighter on two weeks notice doesn't tell us a whole lot about what "DC" can do at 205 pounds, it was still good enough to land him in the middle of the pack.

That's not all.

Alexis Davis climbed the women's 135-pound ladder by turning away Jessica Eye in UFC 170 "Prelims" action. The "Ally-Gator" is resting comfortably ahead of former top contender Miesha Tate, but is still playing second fiddle to the sidelined Cat Zingano.

Now that the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, it's time to find out who's worse for the wear following the carnage at UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann" this past weekend in "Sin City."

The complete list of UFC 170 fighter injuries and medical suspensions for those who competed at the "Rousey vs. McMann" pay-per-view (PPV) event this past Saturday night (Feb. 22, 2014) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, were released to MMAmania.com earlier today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

And the notable fighters who were selected from the list of walking wounded might surprise a few mixed marital arts (MMA) fans.

That's because Rory MacDonald, who rallied from bad first round to put a beating on Demian Maia for the final two frames, could be on the bench for up to six months if a disclosed ankle injury is not cleared by a doctor. He might want to re-visit the witch doctor who helped him not miss a beat when he put a knife through his hand in <strike>training</strike> cooking.

Stephen Thompson, too, could face an extensive layoff because he may have significantly injured his hand in the midst of putting his stamps on Robert Whittaker (watch video highlights here).

Patrick Cummins and T.J. Waldburger, meanwhile, who got their eggs scrambled by Daniel Cormier and Mike Pyle, respectively, are looking at just three-week timeouts.

Whatever.

Here is the complete list of UFC 170 fighter injuries and their medical instructions.

Sara McMann: Suspended until March 25, 2014, no contact until March 16, 2014.

Patrick Cummins: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014.

Demain Maia: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014.

Rory MacDonald: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of a right ankle injury unless doctor clears him to return sooner. Minimum suspension until March 25, 2014, and no contact until March 16, 2014.

T.J. Waldburger: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014.

Stephen Thompson: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of a right hand injury unless doctor clears him to return sooner.

Robert Whittaker: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of a left forearm injury unless doctor clears him to return sooner. Minimum suspension until March 25, 2014, and no contact until March 16, 2014.

Pedro Munhoz: Suspended until March 25, 2014, no contact until March 16, 2014

Raphael Assuncao: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of an injury to left ribs unless doctor clears him to return sooner. Minimum suspension until March 25, 2014, and no contact until March 16, 2014.

Cody Gibson: Cannot compete until August 22, 2014, because of a right hand injury unless doctor clears him to return sooner.

Aljamain Sterling: Must have follow up MRI on his head before March 1, 2014.

Rafaello Oliveira: Suspended until April 9, 2014, no contact until March 25, 2014, because of a contusion under right eye.

Again, just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann" took place this past weekend (Sat., Feb. 22, 2014) from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we saw a champion retain her title in dominant and brutal fashion. We also saw an accomplished mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter put a beating on a part-time barista, part-time fighter. What do we make of all of this? Check it out below.

I remember when UFC President Dana White once said that his promotion needed to put on good fights, because there is a lot of stuff to do on Saturday nights.

In fact, he's right.

We could spend our evening going to see B-list movies; we could score tickets to our respective underachieving sports teams and get blackout drunk while we watch them lose; we could even storm a nightclub and uninvitingly make our way to a circle of girls and make them feel incredibly awkward by dancing next to them.

With the global expansion in effect and the fact that there are more fight cards per year than there are channels on our cable providers, they still need to count.

UFC 170 didn't really count (full results here). It wasn't the greatest or worst card ever, but if it weren't for the lopsided fights, it would have stunk the bag.

Anyhow, here's our "Great Expectations," fresh off the stands:

Main Event

What We Expected: A tough fight for "Rowdy," who would have eventually submitted Sara McMann.

What We Learned: Now, besides the hoopla that surrounds Herb Dean for either looking terrible in his second PPV main event screw-up in a row, or acting accordingly, I'm not too sure anyone expected Rousey to look that good on the feet.

She did fight impressively and improved against Miesha Tate at UFC 168, but her one-trick pony skills were pretty much the difference afterwards.

There were absolutely no submission attempts on her part against McMann, and she kept the fight standing -- drilling McMann a few times, too. Her Olympian counterpart was no slouch in slugging either, but McMann getting dropped by a body shot was totally unexpected.

It was downright shocking.

Rousey has become almost unbeatable in terms of matching her up with the current crop of bantamweights in her division, and unless her "daddy" Dana White, as "Cyborg" likes to put it, calls Cristiane Justino's people and sets this up by the end of the year, we're looking at the best female fighter on the planet for a very long time.

Questions arose at the post-fight press conference about the boatload of terrible decisions on the previous two cards, and that maybe White was upset that the main draws of the card finished their fights so quickly.

It was a senseless inquiry since some fight fans love quick stoppages; however, the main and co-main events were promoted in such a way that we knew we were going to get one-sided beatdowns. To top it all off, that's what we got on the rest of the card, too.

We at least expected McMann to tough it out for three rounds, and some even went far enough to say her wrestling would outdo Rousey's judo.

Did anyone predict that we'd see neither and the fight would have ended in just over a minute, courtesy of strikes?

Me neither.

Co-Main Event

What We Expected: For Daniel Cormier to throw Patrick Cummins outside of the Octagon, into the nosebleeds of the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

What We Learned: Some feel the criticism to have Daniel Cormier fight a guy who was going to get squashed faster than Barry Horowitz was unfair. Those people accused us of being stupid because, after all, it's better that Cormier was on the card, rather than not.

I'll go with leaving him out after what I saw on Saturday night.

Cormier understandably wanted to fight, however that scrap didn't help his light heavyweight title chances, and it made UFC look like they're shifting toward the minor leagues.

We would have criticized Rory MacDonald and Demian Maia for being in the co-main event, but we would have been pleasantly surprised. Their "Performance of The Night" fight was solid, and it surprised us because that fight had all the possibilities to be a stinker.

That fight in itself was a perfect example of expectations being shifted. We expected it to be either a decent fight, or a snoozer. It wasn't an instant classic, but it turned out to be a pretty great.

Seriously, did we need that co-main event on the card?

With Cormier's absence, "Ares" and Maia would have been a great co-main event (even though it's after the fact), and the fight between Alexis Davis and Jessica Eye would have been promoted to the main card -- thoroughly entertaining the masses. Mike Pyle would have still almost murdered TJ Waldburger, and Stephen Thompson would have still came out to Tenacious D.

Not much would have changed.

It was a stupid fight, and enough with the "Rocky" story in our faces. It was a squash story, and to make matters worse, we could have seen Mr. Cup of Joe ruin UFC's reputation by coming off the street and beating arguably one of the top three light heavyweights in the world.

In conclusion, UFC 170 could have been a little better in terms of significant fights, but there wasn't really a boring fight on the main card, either. It makes you wonder if as a fight fan, would you rather tune in knowing someone is going home in an ambulance, or that there are a number of chess matches you can't predict?

Or both?

Here's a better question: which out of the two sell better when promoting events?

UFC 170 is in the books and payouts and salaries are in the checkbooks. Here is the complete list of last Saturday night's earnings for all the fighters competing at the "Rousey vs. McMann" pay-per-view (PPV) event in Las Vegas.

UFC 170 fighter payouts for those competing at the "Rousey vs. McMann" pay-per-view (PPV) event last weekend (Sat., Feb. 22, 2014) from inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, were released earlier today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

Ronda Rousey may have been golden in her championship win over Sara McMann (watch it), but it was Daniel Cormier who came away with all the green.

"Rowdy" needed 66 seconds to obliterate the challenger in the main event of the evening -- and banked $110,000 for her efforts. That's a mere 13 seconds less than it took "DC" to grind up coffee house walk-on Patrick Cummins (see it again here), pocketing $160,000 in the process.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters say the darndest things prior to stepping inside the Octagon. MMAmania.com looks back at a handful of UFC 170 pre-fight remarks to find out who talked the talk -- and who walked the walk -- last Saturday night (Feb. 22, 2014) at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Who backed up their words with actions and who didn't?

There sure was a lot of talking for some fighters taking part on this fight card.

UFC women's bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, didn't take too much time in disposing of Sara McMann, finishing her off in the first round by way of technical knockout.

Rousey dropped McMann with a knee to the liver and followed up with strikes, and Herb Dean had seen enough to stop the fight. McMann shot right back up, and this angered many fans since it's the second championship pay-per-view (PPV) main event that was cut short in the eyes of many because of the veteran referee's actions.

Watch "Rousey vs. McMann" video highlights here.

The co-main event was a lot more decisive, as Daniel Cormier whipped Patrick Cummins quite viciously. "DC" scored a stoppage over his former training partner and backed up his words by trouncing "Durkin" in the first round.

Watch "Cormier vs. Cummins" video highlights here.

Before all the mixed martial arts (MMA) action unfolded inside the Octagon, there were promotional appearances to generate awareness for -- and interest in -- a trip to "Sin City." Fighters said this and that, answering questions galore when all they really wanted to do is be left alone and not be bothered.

MMAmania.com does a pretty good job of passing along all the noteworthy pre- and post-fight comments for each event. But, as we've done before, let us look back at the words that left the fighters' mouths before they stepped into the cage last weekend.

Here we go:

"I do have my concerns about this pay-per-view. It's a really quick turnaround so I haven't given people the chance to miss me and it's after two huge pay-per-views. When I'm the headliner, all the pressure really does fall on me to deliver. I do worry about these things, but the number one issue in front of me is the fight. The pay-per-view is second."

The UFC 170 gate wasn't nearly as good as Dana White predicted days before the event in his media scrum with reporters, and with Rousey's PPV concerns, it's safe to say the champion had a point. The Mandalay Bay Events Center had about a dozen people present for the "Prelims," and the card didn't generate a sellout.

The "biggest star the company has ever had" can't sell out a 12,000-seat arena, but we probably could have told you that ahead of time.

"What are all the things that somebody needs to do a tight, proper armbar in the ways that she likes to set them up? And then you stop them at every single point along the way. Throw defense, and controlling the ties is something that I've done for 17 years. I'm going to come in there, guns blazing and I will literally never stop until I get what I want."

Well, it's safe to say McMann didn't get trapped in an armbar, and she did come out guns blazing.

Unfortunately for her, so did Rousey, and McMann had to stop after a minute's time because she couldn't breathe due to a knee to the liver.

It's a bitter pill to swallow, however it simply wasn't her night, despite the controversy of the stoppage.

"You know it's very upsetting because I kind of thought Patrick and I were friends, because at the time he knew everything I was dealing with. But, it's not a big deal. I'm a professional fighter and when I get in that cage I'm going to do everything that I've done every single time and that's get my hand raised. Do I want to beat him a little bit worse? Yes, I do."

Mission accomplished.

Cormier made Cummins look like he belonged nowhere else but the independent scene, beating the crap out of him in over a minute. If Cormier did that to a "friend," imagine what he would do to someone he hated? There definitely was a sense of satisfaction on Cormier's face after the fight.

And that, perhaps, teaches you to leave secrets behind closed doors.

"Someone told me the odds were pretty crazy. I would love to bet on me. I just don't have any money."

Aside from Cummins telling the world that he made Cormier cry, the coffee shop assassin really didn't belong in the cage against "DC," and the betting lines proved it. What's even worse for "Durkin?" Besides not knowing exactly what his total earnings were for the fight, he made a measly $8,000 dollars to show.

Back to the barista!

"No matter what in this sport, I will always put up my fist and always fight. I don't need to argue with you to make you an object of my emotion. Fighting's fighting. Let's not make it anything else. I don't call people out. I'm a firm believer that the right things happen at the right times. But hey, if Dana White wants me to fight for the title, I'll be there, and I'll be ready."

Jessica Eye's been getting a lot of bad press lately, but we still can't seem to find the positives for her.

She had a golden opportunity to at least convince some people she was ready for a title shot; however, her ground game was her kryptonite against Alexis Davis.

Luckily, she still got to fight after taking a "stinger" (that move where someone intentionally blows pot smoke in your mouth via their mouth), but she'll have to work her way back to the front of the line if she wants to be considered a title contender.

That's it for the pre-fight quotes of UFC 170.

After an action-packed UFC 170 event from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, plenty of fighters are still feeling the buzz; however, Patrick Cummins is likely suffering from the worst post-fight hangover after Daniel Cormier forced him to eat his words after talking up a storm.

Another weekend of fisticuffs has come and gone as UFC 170 blew the roof off the Mandalay Bay this past weekend (Feb. 22, 2014) in Las Vegas, Nevada

Many combatants were left licking their wounds after a wild night of fights, including Demian Maia, who suffered his second straight defeat at the hands of a resurgent Rory MacDonald (video here). And Sara McMann, who was stopped by Ronda Rousey in a little over a minute thanks to a perfectly-placed liver shot (highlights).

But, which fighter is suffering from the worst post-fight hangover, now two days removed from the show?

Patrick Cummins.

The former barista looked to pull off one of the biggest upsets in mixed martial arts (MMA) history by handing Daniel Cormier his first-ever loss in what marked his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut.

In addition, "Durkin" needed the win -- or at least a decent performance -- to back up all of the trash talk he spewed toward "DC" which includes the now-infamous Cry-gate. Unfortunately for Cummins, four first-round victories in smaller shows weren't enough to prepare him for a bout against an accomplished veteran like Cormier.

Even if he apparently got the better of the former Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner on the wrestling mats.

A "pissed off" Cormier did exactly what he was supposed to do, and that's beat a fighter who had no business being in the Octagon with him in the first place -- regardless of what UFC president Dana White said -- as he was able to steamroll right through Cummins, making him look like a fish out of water inside the Octagon (replay) in just 79 seconds of the first round.

Of course, that's what the entire MMA community expected, so the end result was really no surprise. Unfortunately for Cummins, his trash talk only magnified the loss.

Still, despite the beatdown, "Durkin" may have come out a winner. Thanks to his initiative to ask for the fight after Rashad Evans came down with an injury, he earned himself a shot on the biggest MMA stage their is. Something that -- most of the time, but not always -- takes years and a bevy of experience to accomplish.

Furthermore, he found himself in the good graces of the Zuffa higher-ups for volunteering his services on a few days notice. As a result, the fighter that was making coffee for a living just a couple weeks ago, will have another chance to fight inside the eight-walled cage.

The fact that he was able to pull that off by creating buzz that nabbed the attention of White and Co., deserves plenty of credit in and of itself. His next bout, however, should be against someone not on the cusp of a title shot, or in the top 15, for that matter.

And Anthony Perosh -- who was last seen losing a unanimous decision to Ryan Bader last December -- sounds about right.

While "The Hippo" isn't exactly the cream of the MMA crop, he isn't a push over either, and he'll prove to a be a stiff test for Cummins, who shouldn't have made his UFC debut against a "killer" like Cormier.
