Impressive indeed.

<s>Superman</s> Anderson Silva is showing once again (via Instagram) that his healing powers are indeed superhero-like, as the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion was spotted sparring under the tutelage of famed boxing trainer, Freddie Roach, four months after shattering his right leg against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 on Dec. 28, 2014.

See the devastating pictures here.

Silva's latest progress report (see more here and here) is a good sign for mixed martial arts (MMA) fans who are clinging to the hope that "The Spider" will return to the Octagon by end of this year.

At least, that's what Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White claims.

The loss for Silva was his second straight at the hands of Weidman, as "All American" knocked him out five months earlier at UFC 162 in Las Vegas, Nevada, ending his dominant run atop the 185-pound mountain.

Nevertheless, Silva is recuperating well and looks to be on his way to making a return to the Octagon for another potential run at the title.

But, as impressive as his progress is, does it top Tyrone Spong walking 40 hours after suffering the same injury at GLORY 15?

Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) tested 22 Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighters who were included on the UFC 168 fight card, which took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 28, 2013. The results of those tests, at least for two competitors, came back "inconclusive."

UFC 168 drug test results are in from Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), which today (Nov. 22, 2013) confirmed that 20 of the 22 mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters who were tested for illegal/banned substances after competing at the "Weidman vs. Silva 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event on Dec. 28, 2013, in Las Vegas, have all passed with flying colors.

However, two fighters -- Dennis Siver and Siyar Bahadurzada -- had results that returned "inconclusive," according to FOXSports.com, which means their "B" samples will be re-examined for performance enhancing drugs such as steroids, as well as drugs of abuse like cocaine and marijuana, among others.

It's important to highlight that an "inconclusive" result, according to the report, "could signal many possibilities, ranging from the mishandling of a sample to a diluted sample. It does not necessarily indicate guilt."

The "B" sample tests for Siver -- who outworked Manny Gamburyan en route to a decision win in their Featherweight fight -- and Bahadurzada -- who dropped a decision thanks to a spirited effort from John Howard -- should be complete within two weeks.

You didn't think a broken leg would make Anderson Silva forgot about his long-desired boxing match against Roy Jones Jr, did you?

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White is confident former Middleweight champion Anderson Silva will return to the Octagon once he fully heals from the horrible leg break (pictures here) he suffered during his title rematch against Chris Wiedman at UFC 168 in Dec. 2013.

However, possibly not before "The Spider" gets his much-sought after boxing match against Roy Jones Jr. Indeed, the Brazilian bomber shared his comeback plan in a recent interview with MMA Fighting:

"When I get better, that's my biggest goal, especially because I won't be able to fight MMA too soon. Fighting in boxing is in my plans, yes, as soon as I'm able to fight again. And Roy is a big idol."

Despite constant pleas from his family to hang up his fight gloves for good following back-to-back losses to "All American," Silva says that simply isn't an option at this point.

"I respect and understand their concern, but that's something that has to come from my heart. That's not in my plans. I'm focused in my recovery, but I want to get back as soon as possible. That's who I am, it's part of my history. I'm 100 percent positive that I will be back, but it's not only up to me. They are helping my recovery and it is super positive thus far. But I need their feedback to be back at 100 percent. I don't see myself doing other thing, at least for now. It's not just fighting, it's also training."

As far as a third fight against Weidman, that's not at the top of Silva's list because the Brazilian has other goals he wants to achieve such as becoming a famous actor.

"I want to be good again to get back to my normal activities, my personal projects. One of (my projects) is to become an actor, and other news that are coming in the future. It's in my plans (to work in Hollywood). I'm working for that."

What's the difference between so-called "ungracious winners" UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and NFC Championship game hero, Seattle Seahawks' Richard Sherman? Dana White explains.

"Nope [I didn't say anything to Ronda Rousey about not shaking Miesha Tate's hand after UFC 168]. That was her own decision. It's not about being an ungracious winner … Ronda said it best. She said, 'I didn't like her before the fight, I definitely don't like her after the fight, and nobody is going to boo me into shaking her hand.' Period. End of story. And as far as the Richard Sherman thing goes, that was awesome! The guy has probably been playing football since he was eight years old, dreamed about going to the Super Bowl and goes head-to-head against the guy who was trash talking him. And he pulls off, in my opinion, the best play of the game to send his team to the Super Bowl -- that was a touchdown pass. He was fired up, got on TV (watch him lose his mind here) and let everyone know about it. I wish the Patriots were that fired up that day…. I disagree (that I would publicly support anything Ronda did). I'm sure there a lot of things she could do that I wouldn't publicly support, but [the no handshake] isn't one of them. She hates Miesha Tate … they don't like each other. Ronda is mean and nasty, that's who she is. And she couldn't care less what anyone thinks."

-- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White was on 790 "The Ticket" sports talk radio show earlier this afternoon with host Dan LeBatard to promote the "Henderson vs. Thomson" event on FOX this weekend (Sat., Jan. 25, 2014). But, like most interviews between LeBatard and White, the conversation focused on anything but the true purpose of the appearance. Indeed, the interview touched on the recent injury to former Middleweight champion Anderson Silva (and his timetable for a return), the PED drama between him and former Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and, of course, women's Bantamweight box office draw, Ronda Rousey. LeBatard branded "Rowdy" an "ungracious winner" for refusing to shake the hand of her arch enemy, Miesha Tate, after she scored a submission win in round three at UFC 168. It was unsportsmanlike conduct that immediately drew the ire of the Las Vegas, Nevada, crowd. Over the weekend, a similar situation played out on FOX when Richard Sherman, fresh off a game-winning defensive play to send his Seattle Seahawks to Super Bowl 48, lost his mind in an interview with sideline reporter Erin Andrews (watch it here). Sherman, emotionally overdosed, used the opportunity to trash 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree, a rival who would certainly be his NFL version of Tate. He's since been vilified among certain media members for his outburst and even offered an apology for "taking attention away from his teammates." Rousey? Not a chance in hell.

Which is one of the reasons "Hapa" believes "Warmaster" came up short against him last December.

After losing to Travis Browne at UFC 168 on Dec. 28, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada, via knockout in round one (watch video highlights here), Josh Barnett focused more on what he did wrong rather than what "Hapa" did right on fight night.

Indeed, "Warmaster" decided to go back to the drawing board, conjuring up a 12-step program to return to mixed martial arts (MMA) dominance (read all about it here).

It's that lack of respect that Barnett showed toward Browne that makes "Hapa" believe is one of the reasons the well-traveled MMA veteran came up short against him in Sin City."

Browne broke it down during a recent appearance on "The MMA Hour:"

"I feel that defines him as a fighter. He had these 12 steps and all of this kind of nonsense when there's really only one step. One thing that you really need to do in this sport and it's the golden freaking rule to not make any excuses. That's it. If you make no excuses, there is nothing holding you back. People beat themselves in this sport. On that night, on any night, I'm the better fighter. I 100 percent believe that of myself. That's why I went out there and did what no one else has done in such a short amount of time to a fighter like Josh Barnett."

After reiterating that he doesn't care about getting respect at this stage of his career, Browne claims Barnett's lack of credit for his performance -- and instead of unveiling a 12-step program for his own resurgence -- shows that the former UFC Heavyweight champion is an entertainer before a fighter.

Browne's words:

"That's (respect) something that I wanted when I was really young in the sport and when I first got into the UFC. I would say that I want to feel like I belong and that I want to people to understand that I belong in the sport. At this stage of my career, I don't care if people think I belong or not because I'm knocking people out. My performance's speak for themselves. My respect is going to be earned. The respect is a byproduct of the performances you put on. I feel like he (josh) is an entertainer before he's a fighter. I think he has that personality. Guys that I've fought before, they give me respect because once we get into the cage and when we leave the cage, they understand what kind of athlete I am. I get that respect. I don't really care if I get that from Josh. That's more of his personality and I honestly think that's one of the reason he failed and came up short."

After coming to terms on a new contract with UFC -- one that made Browne very happy -- he will now face jiu-jitsu ace Fabricio Werdum at UFC on Fox 11 in Orlando, Fla., on April 19, 2014, for the right to face current division champion Cain Velasquez later this year.

While it's still unclear if their 265-pound bout will indeed be the main event in the "Sunshine State," Browne says he is training for a five-round bout like always.

And working on the alleged "questionable cardio" isn't a terrible idea ... just in case.

New Year, New "War Master."

This past December, Josh Barnett's sophomore effort since returning to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) didn't go as smooth as his re-debut.

At UFC 168, Barnett ran into the vicious elbows of Travis Browne, which put him down for the count early in round one (watch violent video here).

And according to the well-traveled mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran, one of the major reasons for the loss is because "War Master" simply failed to show up in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He explained his performance on a recent appearance on "The MMA Hour:"

"Honestly, it wasn't about what went wrong. Sometimes you just don't appear, man. After 17 years, I can't say that I've had tougher nights, or you've had nights were you didn't perform as well as you'd like to. But this was the only time I'd ever had where it was just... I just didn't show up at all. I really feel like I didn't even have a fight. Me, ‘the Warmaster,' Josh Barnett, he didn't show up. Some other guy walked into the ring and sort of piddled around a little bit., but that's not me, and it was very strange. But I figure after being in so many fights and being through this whole process for so long, it's really not too surprising that it could happen."

Not one to sit and sulk, Barnett is ready to start a new win streak, outlining a 12-step program on his way back to MMA dominance.

His list:

Remove outside distractions

Move training camp away from home

Pre-camp harder!

Increase flexibility

Work more on weaknesses

Spend more time on recovery

Work on learning a new language

Kill

Kill

Kill

Kill

Kill

Can't knock the man's plan.

The loss for Barnett was his first since dropping a unanimous decision to Daniel Cormier in May 2012 under the Strikeforce banner.

As for Browne, he's already booked to fight Fabricio Wedum in a No. 1 Heavyweight contender eliminator match at UFC on FOX 11 (full details here) fight for the right to face division champion Cain Velasquez.

Barnett, meanwhile, now awaits word for his next UFC foe.

Well, walking is the first step?

UFC 168 was a memorable night (Dec. 28, 2013) for all of the wrong reasons.

It was supposed to cap off a tremendous year for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) that saw champions fall and new champions crowned. One of the biggest cards in the promotion's history, the main event featured a rematch between UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman and former division kingpin Anderson Silva.

The first bout was arguably the biggest upset in mixed martial arts (MMA) history as Weidman shocked the world by knocking out "The Spider" in the second round.

Fans expected fireworks for the rematch. Instead, what they got was a bout that ended because of a gruesome injury. Little more than one minute into the second round, Weidman checked a Silva leg kick. It's a technique that's pretty common in Muay Thai and MMA ... and one that rarely ends a fight.

"Rarely" being the qualifier as Silva's shin snapped in half when it connected with Weidman's knee. Just like that, the most anticipated rematch of 2013 ended in disappointment.

Silva was rushed to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery. The surgery was a success and a titanium rod was inserted in his tibia.

Friday night (Jan. 10, 2014), UFC President Dana White sent out a photo saying that Silva's leg is not only healing fast, but that the former champ will be walking without crutches in the next 30 days.

While the news is great that Silva is recovering well, it's still pretty unlikely he'll attempt a return to the sport. Past athletes who have suffered similar injuries have discussed the pains they face every single day, some years after retiring from competition.

Silva has a long road ahead of him. It's good to see the promotion is firmly behind him.

After snapping his shin in half in his UFC 168 bout with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Chris Weidman (see pics here), the future seemed bleak for Anderson Silva. However, according to UFC President Dana White, he should be walking around within the next 30 days without the aid of crutches.
