One shoulder? No problem. Anthony Pettis reveals he suffered a separated shoulder two weeks prior to his championship-winning performance against former Lightweight champion Ben Henderson at UFC 164.

The first round submission victory for Anthony Pettis at UFC 164 last month (Aug. 31, 2013) in Milwaukee, Wisc. (watch it here), was a dominant and impressive way to kick start the "Showtime" title reign in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 155-pound division.

Especially because Henderson -- a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt -- had only been finished once before in his seven-year mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

What's even more impressive is that Pettis separated his shoulder two weeks prior to his championship fight against "Smooth" and still managed to dethrone the champ much like he did under the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) banner three years ago.

Pettis revealed his injury on "The MMA Hour:"

"You know what, my knee was fine, but I actually separated my shoulder two weeks before the fight. So, going into the fight I had a separated right shoulder. My jitz coach rolled a little too hard and he slammed me on my shoulder, and I separated my shoulder two weeks before the fight. The last two weeks before the camp all I could do was roll really light. I couldn't spar. For me it was just a mental thing. I've been through that before. It sucks that it happened two before the fight, but I wasn't backing out of that one."

The Roufusport-trained fighter isn't a stranger to going hard on the mat.

A few weeks prior to his scheduled Featherweight title fight against division king Jose Aldo at UFC 163, Pettis was forced to withdraw because of a knee injury he suffered while rolling with UFC Light Heavyweight contender Phil Davis. Despite the setback, Pettis was pegged as T.J. Grant's replacement to challenge "Bendo" in "The Brew City" -- his hometown -- for the Lightweight strap.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

After his win, it was revealed that Pettis has suffered yet another knee injury; however, "Showtime" won't require surgery to repair his bum limb.

Pettis will next take on Josh Thomson in the main event of UFC on Fox 9, which goes down in Sacramento, Calif., on Dec. 14, 2013. And Pettis assures fight fans he will be 100 percent come fight night, something that's a must if he plans on finishing "The Punk" in round one.

Or, maybe not if recent history is an indicator.

UFC President Dana White teased "breaking news" would be revealed tonight on ESPNs "SportsCenter." The announcement?
Anthony Pettis landed the "Submission of the Night" last night (Sat., Aug. 31, 2013) -- and the Lightweight championship -- with a shocking first round submission win over Ben Henderson at UFC 164, which took place at BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. See how it all went down with the Anthony Pettis vs. Ben Henderson 2 full fight video highlights above.

What a finish!

Anthony Pettis proved that he does indeed have the number for Ben Henderson, forcing "Smooth" -- who was recently awarded his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt -- to verbally tap to an armbar submission in the first round of their main event at UFC 164 last night (Sat. Aug. 31, 2013), which took place at BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

And he didn't need a "Showtime Kick" this time around, which was the case during the final event for World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) back in 2010.

On the contrary, Pettis weathered an early Henderson blitz, remaining cool, calm and collected, knowing that he had five rounds to strut his stuff. Midway through round one, "Showtime" began to open up after Henderson had him stuffed up against the cage, launching several kicks that found their marks.

One of them didn't, however, and Henderson used it to take the Lightweight match to the ground. As it turns out, this decision was a terrible mistake because Pettis immediately trapped Henderson's arm while on his back and began to apply bone-breaking pressure.

Henderson attempt to escape, rising to his feet and turning to his side, but Pettis apparently had it locked in tight. In fact, in his post-fight interview, Pettis revealed that he heard it "pop," while Henderson admitted that it was "killing" him.

That physical pain is only temporary -- the psychological fallout will likely last much longer now that Henderson has lost two world titles in two different promotions to "Showtime."

What (another) amazing finish ... even if the armbar submission (verbal tapout) was far less flashy.

The ZUFFA brass handed out its usual post-fight bonus awards to select fighters coming out of the UFC 164 event last night (Sat., Aug. 31, 2013) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Check out who took home the extra coin for their efforts.

UFC 164: "Henderson vs Pettis 2" from GMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has officially wrapped, which means it's time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $50,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four of the 24 fighters on the card, and it's probably no surprise who's heading home with a second sack of simoleons.

If you skipped the main card, you missed out on both the "Knockout of the Night" and the "Submission of the Night" winning performances, with Chad Mendes stopping Clay Guida in the third round via TKO and Anthony Pettis securing an armbar in the first against Benson Henderson.

Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 164:

Knockout of the Night -- Chad Mendes

Submission of the Night -- Anthony Pettis

Fight of the Night -- Hyun Gyu Lim vs Pascal Krauss

Again, each fighter received $50,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as that information becomes available.

"Smooth" and "Showtime" ran back their WEC 53 instant mixed martial arts (MMA) classic tonight (Sat., Aug. 31, 2013) in the main event of UFC 164, which took place at BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And the second verse was the same as the first ... sorta.

Ben Henderson and Anthony Pettis squared up for a second time tonight (Sat., Aug. 31, 2013) in the main event of UFC 164, which took place at BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Lightweight pair first collided under World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) banner, with Pettis edging out Henderson in a close five-round fight thanks in large part to a "Showtime Kick" in the final round that dropped "Smooth."

Three years removed from WEC 53, Henderson now serves as Ultimate Fighting Lightweight (UFC) Lightweight champion, hoping to erase the "stain" on his mixed martial arts (MMA) record that Pettis put their with an exclamation point.

He'll have to wait much longer because now their are two.

Henderson stormed out of his corner with purpose, punching Pettis against the cage and then using the opportunity to work for a takedown. Pettis eventually broke free, but Henderson put him right back in his place.

It was pretty clear early that Henderson was not going to give Pettis much room to showcase his flashy skills.

Once Pettis got some space toward the end of the round, he began to land several solid shots with his feet. Henderson used one of them to takedown Pettis, who from his back maneuvered for an armbar.

Henderson tried to escape, getting to his feet, but he was unable escape once Pettis rolled to his belly. With both arms tied up, and one on the verge of snapping, Henderson informed referee Herb Dean that he was tapping out.

And just like that, we have a NEW UFC LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION!

Three years ago, Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis tore the roof down on the Jobbing.com Arena in Scottsdale, Arizona at WEC 53. It was for Henderson's World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Lightweight belt and the card marked the final event for the promotion. It was a back and forth fight, until Pettis landed the 'Showtime kick' in the fifth round, securing the win.

The two young lightweights were given an opportunity to touch gloves before the first round. Instead, they stared each other down back to their respective corners.

Round one began with Henderson pushing forward immediately for a takedown. Pettis did well toe stay upright but Henderson was able to land several inside knees to the body.

That wouldn't be the last failed takedown attempt for Henderson in the round.

When he was finally given the space to work, Pettis began to open up with kicks to the body. His ability to throw from weird angles and without any windup kept Henderson on the defensive.

It was only when Pettis threw a cartwheel kick that Henderson was able to get the fight to the ground. Unfortunately, Pettis was able to lock in a tight armbar and force a verbal submission with less than 30 seconds left in the first round.

Anthony Pettis is your new UFC Lightweight champion.

Ben Henderson and Anthony Pettis will finally go toe-to-toe one more time at tonight's (Sat., Aug. 31, 2013) UFC 164 event in Milwaukee. Can Pettis dethrone the lightweight king? Check out this video preview to find out.

It's hard to believe, almost, but it's almost been three years since World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) closed its doors with one of the greatest fights in the history of mixed martial arts (MMA). That may be high praise, perhaps higher than the bout deserves, but it gave birth to the famous "Showtime Off the Wall Kick".

You remember the one. Ben Henderson certainly does. In fact, it would surprise no one to believe that kick, delivered by freak athlete Anthony Pettis, still gives him nightmares.

That was then, though. This is now, and "Bendo" is the champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) shark infested 155-pound division. Pettis has been chasing a shot at the very title the "Smooth" one has around his waist since he beat Henderson that night back in 2010 in Phoenix.

Well, tonight (Sat., Aug. 31, 2013) at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he'll finally get his shot at it. And Henderson will finally get the chance to avenge his most embarrassing defeat.

Giggity giggity.
