Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight kingpin Frank Mir was recently flagged for a United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation, which occurred in the wake of his UFC Fight Night 85 loss to Mark Hunt last March in Australia.

More on that mess here.

Mir, however, is adamant that he never knowingly ingested any sort of performance-enhancing drug (PED), and wondered aloud if the kangaroo meat he's been ingesting (yuck) was responsible for the traces of oral turinabol metabolites, classified as an anabolic steroid.

Either way, his "B" sample was tested and corroborated the results, according to Mir's comments on Phone Booth Fighting (via MMA Fighting):

"I went through the process just to see if maybe something happened with testing procedure, but they re-tested the ‘B' sample and it came back with the same results, as far as having trace metabolites. Giving the animals [drugs] is not really unheard of, especially that -- turinabol is extremely popular in Australia. So to give it to the animals to bulk them up, that way you make more money when it comes to bring that animal in to be butchered. It sounds awful, but I'm listening to it, trying to go back, trying to figure that out... Part of the procedure was that I had the right to be there in person where it was tested at. I asked for it to be sent a different lab, and that's not the case. It gets tested at the same lab. Since I couldn't be there, they appointed one of the other lab techs as my representative. But here's my thought on that: you and I work for a lab, you do a test on a guy and let's say you messed up, that somehow it came back the wrong test. Now I'm your co-worker and I'm going to run the test on the same thing. It came out of our lab, we work for the same company - this lab - even if I found that you made an error, am I really going to go ahead and go, ‘oh man, hey, you know that guy you just got suspended for two years and might have ended his career? You screwed up. Our whole lab messed up. Oh my God, yeah, let's go ahead and let's bring that to light real quick.' I would think having a test at the same lab is a conflict of interest."

There have been documented cases of tainted meat causing positive drug tests.

Mir, who was once a card-carrying member of the TRT club (details), insists he will retire from mixed martial arts (MMA) if USADA slaps him with a two-year suspension. The good news is, there has been a wave of leniency in recent months for <strike>twats</strike> athletes who are willing to put up a fight.

Like wine, Mark Hunt continues to get better with age.

The hard-hitting, No. 8-ranked UFC heavyweight contender recently ousted ex-champion Frank Mir in the first round of a UFC Fight Night 85 main event in Brisbane, Australia, last weekend (video) and now "Super Samoan" is itching to step back into the Octagon.

Against who, you ask? Only the best of the best.

"Any of them is fine. Any of the top-five guys would be fine. If someone pulls out, I'd rather fight sooner," Hunt said on the MMA Hour earlier in the week. "So if someone pulls out, I'm your man. Give me a call."

Hunt's knockout of Mir makes it two straight for the 42-year-old kickboxing champ. He should have his pick of the litter coming up, seeing as how there are myriad of interesting collisions set to take place over the next two months in the 265-pound division.

First, intimidating bruiser Ben Rothwell meets devastating boxer Junior dos Santos on April 10, 2016 at UFC Fight Night 86.

Then, roughly one month later in May, renowned Dutch striker Alistair Overeem takes on his Jackson-Wink MMA teammate Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night 87, while the 265-pound belt is up for grabs at UFC 198 when champion Fabricio Werdum defends his title against colossal Croatian Stipe Miocic.

Back to Hunt. A Top-5 win is something that has eluded the fearsome New Zealander for years and he wouldn't mind a crack at "Cigano" or Miocic again.

Hunt was bloodied and beaten by both men on separate occasions in 2013 and 2015, respectively.

Considering his age, time is of the essence for the big man. Do you think winning a title is a realistic goal?

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is several days removed from its UFC Fight Night 85 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, which took place last weekend in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

In case you missed some of the carnage, like Steve Bosse's destruction of James Te Huna, as well as Mark Hunt's walk-off knockout over Frank Mir, you can get up to speed on all the action "Down Under" right here.

But those highlight-reel moments are not without consequences.

There is no existing athletic commission in Australia; therefore, UFC must act as its own governing body. That includes handing down medical suspensions to MMA LLC, which acts as the record and suspension keeper for the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC).

The full list includes:

Damien Brown: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Alan Patrick: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Ross Pearson: Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact).
Chad Laprise: Suspended 180 days or until cleared with negative right hand X-ray.
Richard Walsh: Suspended 180 days or until cleared with negative right forearm X-ray.
Viscardi Andrade: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Rin Lakai: Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact).
Leslie Smith: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Daniel Hooker: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Mark Eddiva: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Brendan O'Reilly: Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact).
Alan Jouban: Suspended 180 days or until clearance with left elbow MRI.
Bec Rawlings: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Seo Hee Ham: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Steve Bosse: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
James Te Huna: Suspended 180 days or until clearance with head CT scan. Minimum suspension 60 days (45 days no contact).
Daniel Kelly: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Antonio Barbosa Jr.: Suspended 180 days or until cleared by ENT specialist. Minimum suspension 60 days (45 days no contact).
Jake Matthews: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).
Johnny Case: Suspended 45 days (30 days no contact).
Hector Lombard: Suspended 180 days or until cleared with head CT scan. Minimum suspension 45 days (30 days no contact).
Neil Magny: Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact).
Frank Mir: Suspended 180 days or until cleared with head and neck CT scan. Minimum suspension 45 days (30 days no contact).
Mark Hunt: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest period).

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.

As expected, welterweight phenom Neil Magny improved his position in the 170-pound standings with a second-round beatdown of division bruiser Hector Lombard (replay).
This past weekend's UFC Fight Night 85 event in Brisbane, Australia, was an overall success

Mark Hunt finished Frank Mir via first-round knockout (replay), Jake Matthews realized his potential with a submission win over a game Johnny Case (see it) and hometown hero Dan Kelly stunned Antonio Carlos Junior with a come-from-behind technical knockout (video). All in all, five out of the six Australians fighting on the main card captured victory in front of a wily crowd at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

But through the walkaway knockouts, comeback victories and hometown successes, the night may have been tainted by a late stoppage in the Neil Magny vs. Hector Lombard fight. After rebounding from a vicious first-round onslaught by Lombard, Magny proceeded to batter the Cuban into the canvas for what seemed an eternity to end the second (watch it here). Referee Steve Perceval refused to stop the fight, although he finally called it early into the third, and has since caught a lot of flack for his mistake, especially from the Twitter world.

Even more importantly, the late stoppage has sparked conversation among Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) executives, specifically UFC Managing Director Tom Wright during the post-fight press conference (video).

"We were a lot concerned," said Wright when asked if the fight should have been stopped in the second round. "I think [Magny] said it best. It's the referee's job, is to make sure that a fight is stopped, that the athlete can protect himself or herself. I'm sitting not quite as close as the referee was, but I thought that fight should've been stopped and it should've been stopped a long time before."

In all likelihood, Perceval allowed the fight to go on a little longer than he usually would because Lombard had never been finished in 41 professional bouts. But at the end of the day, stopping a fight should be a routine measure taken despite any history of battling through adversity a fighter may possess.

Because when that line is not drawn, the results can be crippling for someone incapable of defending themselves from countless blows to the head. Late stoppages, early stoppages and downright poor refereeing will continue to be a problem in mixed martial arts until promotions and commissions work together to fix the glaring issue.

Another weekend of fisticuffs has come and gone, as UFC Fight Night 85 blew the roof off Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia last Saturday night (March 20, 2016) on FOX Sports 1.

For complete coverage of the entire UFC Fight Night 85 card click here.

Plenty of fighters were left licking their wounds, including Hector Lombard, who was beat down by Neil Magny (see it again here). And James Te Huna, who was on the receiving end of a one-hitter quitter from Steve Bosse (recap)

But which fighter is suffering from the worst post-fight hangover, now two days removed from the show?

Frank Mir.

The two-time heavyweight champion of the world looked to get back on the winning track by picking up a victory over heavy-hitting Mark Hunt.

By doing so, not only would Mir earn himself some much-needed confidence, but also prove to the fight world that at the age of 36, he is far from being done in the hurt business.

Unfortunately, Mir found himself on the losing end, yet again, as his opponent, Mark Hunt, did what he does best.

"Super Samoan" crushed Mir and his comeback dreams with a devastating right that ultimately sent the longtime veteran crashing to the canvas (see it again here).

As usual, Hunt knew the fight was over, as he refused to engage further on his fallen foe, opting to walk away like he usually does knowing he had gotten the job done.

Hit it and quit it.

While the victory is big for Hunt, the loss is equally as gigantic for Mir. Aside from giving him his second straight defeat, it also marked his sixth loss in eight outings. And at 36 years of age, the losses mean more to an aging fighter.

The road is now an unclear one, as Mir has been in the fight game for 15 years now, beaten the best-of-the best and accomplished more during his run that most will ever get close to.

UFC on FOX Sports analyst Brian Stann suggested that Mir call it a day, as he has nothing left to prove to the mixed martial arts (MMA) world. But, if he didn't walk away from the game after suffering four straight defeats, I don't think two losses in a row will sway his decision to cash in on his proverbial 401K.

Should he ultimately decide to stick around, perhaps a big man showdown against fellow submission specialist and heavyweight elder statesman Alexey Oliynyk would be in order. Should Mir decide to call it quits, it wouldn't upset some of the MMA community; me included.

Mir has walked the walked and definitely talked the talk during his time inside the Octagon. He's beaten some of the best to ever compete in the sport, and his two world titles will assure his legacy and second Hall of Fame induction.

And walking away on a loss won't do anything to bring it down.

UFC Fight Night 85 went down last night (Sat., March 19, 2016) inside the Brisbane Entertainment Center in Brisbane, Australia, and now it's time to see who went home with the biggest slice of the Reebok sponsorship pie.

For complete UFC Fight Night 85: "Hunt vs. Mir" results and coverage of all the night's action click here.

The biggest sponsorship earner of the night was Frank Mir, who walked away with an event high $20,000 check from the sports apparel giant in a losing effort Mark Hunt.

Speaking of Hunt, he scored a $10,000 sponsorship payday after delivering another highlight reel walk off knockout victory.

So, how are payouts determined?

According to the revamped payout structure (see it), the more fights you have combined with UFC and the now-defunct World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) and Strikeforce promotions, the more coin you have for your combat sports piggy bank.

And the less fights you have under the ZUFFA banner... well, the less you get. If you have a problem with the structure, take it up with UFC, not Reebok.

According to the report, fighters will also receive royalty and payments up to 20-30 percent of any UFC-related merchandise sold that bears his or her likeness. That's a great way for the Internet "morons" to help the cause.

The king of the walk off knockout was back to his old tricks last night (Sat. Mar. 19, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 85 in Brisbane, Australia.

"Super Samoan" floored Frank Mir in round one with a crushing right hand, then proceeded to take a leisurely stroll inside the Octagon (full video highlights here).

Business as usual.

"Frank, he was still in the dark lands when I saw him [after landing the punch]," Hunt declared during the post-fight press conference via MMA Fighting. "His face was still...he wasn't there, so I just left it. He wasn't there. He was out, somewhere else."

Hunt though, wasn't mocking his foe, he was just being brutally honest when describing what he saw.

"Well, it's true," Hunt continued. "He wasn't there. He was blacked out."

Respect.

Winner of two straight, Hunt isn't looking to slow down anytime soon. In fact, the heavy-hitter is already looking ahead to his next fight.

And if Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) matchmakers are listening, Hunt wants the opportunity to avenge some losses.

"I'd fight any of the top guys," Hunt said. "I could rematch any of those guys - JDS, Stipe, the guy with the belt...Fabricio...I've never lost a rematch, so I'd like to rematch any one of those guys."

Confidence.
