Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos has been shipped off to “Sin City” to serve as backup for the UFC 264 pay-per-view (PPV) main event between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier this Sat. night (July 10) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

That’s according to a report from Combate.

CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLEHEADER! Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to T-Mobile Arena with a pair of thrilling world championship bouts. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 29 coaches collide when Featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, defends his title against No. 2-ranked contender, Brian Ortega. UFC 266’s co-main event will see women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko go for her sixth consecutive title defense when she meets No. 3-seeded contender, Lauren Murphy. Last, and certainly not least, Nick Diaz returns against former Welterweight roost ruler, Robbie Lawler, in a five-round banger.

Don’t miss a single second of EPIC face-punching action!

Dos Anjos, 36, is currently cutting weight for the lightweight limit of 155 pounds and would only be needed in case of injury or illness to either McGregor or Poirier. Then again, it sounds like “Notorious” is willing to fight him anyway, sort of like they do in Miami.

“Put Dos Anjos in at the same time,” McGregor wrote on Twitter.

An injury to Dos Anjos back in early 2016 canceled his title fight against McGregor and sent the power-punching Irishman into a hastily-assembled “red-panty night” opposite Nate Diaz. That led to McGregor’s first loss inside the UFC and changed the course of lightweight history.

Poirier has yet to comment.

WTF - RDA coming in and cutting weight is so random

Why not just make sure in this case that you have another decent 155er on the card that can be shifted in?

What exactly is wrong with having RDA as the backup?

He is a former champ
He is back at 155 & ranked #7 at 155
He is coming off a win at 155

No problem. Gaethje and Dariush probably didn't want to do it. Chandler and Tony are on the mend.

Juice’s not worth the squeeze if you’re angling for the title, I can’t remember if one guy pegged as replacement ever fought. Dos Anjos is 36, is the next guy after those and has nothing to lose, makes sense.

Justin would of been a cool back up

Justin's allowed himself to drift into virtual obscurity...

Justin doesn’t really wanna be back up fighter last I knew.

yeah, he deserves a title eliminator type fight

Not to play 2nd fiddle to a ridiculous rematch. They’re probably working on justin vs. Chandler

Yeah as ridiculous as it may be it’s the biggest payday

no argument there

What exactly has Justin done since his loss to Khabib to deserve a title eliminator?

I get it that Justin is an amazing fighter and probably 100% guaranteed to give a fun fight. But no way does he deserve a title eliminator fight coming off a title fight loss.

- Without actually verifying I would say that almost all of the top 10 fighters at 155 have been more active than Justin in the last 8-9 months.
- There are fighters with long win streaks in the top 10 at 155. That is hard work that they are putting in that deserves some respect
- Of the current top 10 Justin has only fought 3 with 1 loss.
- There are some strong wrestlers/grapplers in the top 15 and he has not fought a single one of them. Despite his D1 wrestling background, he appeared lost on the ground in the Khabib fight and I would love see him tested again by a strong wrestler/grappler.

PS: Also Dana has pretty much said that the winner of Dustin Vs Conor is getting the next title shot! So that is the title eliminator!!

Where is he ranked?

That’s enough to be a back up or at this point with the champ gone another title shot

Ranking is never enough especially when the guys ranked immediately above & below

are both more active and have win streaks!!!

If you don’t remember, Justin was Khabib’s easiest title defense. Justin needs to atleast get 1 win against someone/anyone in the top 10.

that's a whole lot of words, most I agree with

However he is a huge name at LW, and I guarantee you he is a win away from the next shot after the dustin/Conor winner.

You’re conflating my words to say justin gets next crack, and I never said that. But you thinking any of what you typed out means justin needs multiple wins to get a title eliminator/fight is not reading the room very well. Dana/the U give 0 fucks about the streaks of people with lesser names.

Yes, he is a big name, but there are others that have as much a name

Dustin – bigger name and actually beat Justin by TKO!!
Conor – Much bigger name and has been champ before at 155 in the UFC
Chandler – as big a name and a former champ at Bellator (bigger than WSOF)
RDA – As big a name and a former champ at 155 in the UFC

You said he deservers a title eliminator over being a backup for this fight. This fight is the eliminator is what it is!!

you're being pedantic. I stated what I meant.

!!!!!!

Listen bud. Play this out in real life. Dustin wins, they book gaethje vs. Chandler for what? THE TITLE ELIMINATOR FOR THE WINNER OF DUSTIN VS. OLIVEIRA. rinse and repeat if Conor wins.

Or, ya know, they book chandler or RDA against oliveira/Dustin before gaethje because that makes perfect sense, right?

!!!!!!!

Not sure how it works, but does conor have a say in who the backup is?

I can’t imagine him wanting to fight justin on short notice..or at all.

Lol conor said put them in at the same time.

RDA has harder and better leg kicks than Dustin. Imo

With a stellar

Ground game to boot

And he's physically stronger as well.

We should get

The pre usada RDA in he was a real monster

We should get USADA exemptions for all steroids and EPO,

let these fuckers juice to the gills. Imagine how great the fights could be if they never gassed or even hinted at being tired. Pride Never Die!

Double Calf Kicks!

Woof

I’d almost rather see the fight cancelled.

A Conor fight deserves better and Dustin can be immediately booked for a title fight.

"A Conor fight deserves better"

He’s 1-2 with his last win over Donald Cerrone lmao.

Get the fuck out of here with that shit.
