Khalil Rountree inches closer to Top 10 in latest UFC rankings update

Vicente Luque got back on the winning track and snapped his two-fight losing streak by putting on a dominant wrestling performance against former Lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos, in the main event of UFC Vegas 78 this past weekend (Sat., Aug., 12, 2023) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Unfortunately for “Silent Assassin,” it wasn’t good enough to earn him a bump on the official UFC rankings because he stayed put at No. 10. As for “RDA,” the loss cost him a spot at Lightweight (yes, really), dropping him down to No 10.

One man who did gain some ground — but fell short of the Top 10 — was Khalil Rountree, who moved up two spots in the Light Heavyweight division and now owns the No. 11 spot in the division after collecting his fourth straight win by knocking out Chris Daukaus in the first round (see it here).

Here’s how UFC compiles its official rankings:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).
