Kevin Lee likely has a new opponent for the UFC Vegas 35, which will take place inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Aug. 28, 2021; however, Daniel Rodriguez — unlike Sean Brady — is unranked. Rodriguez (15-2) has agreed to replace an injured Brady (No. 14) against Lee (18-6) in a Welterweight bout, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
“D-Rod” is on the heels of consecutive wins over Preston Parsons last month and Mike Perry earlier this year. The all-action fighter boasts a 5-1 record in UFC. Meanwhile, “The Motown Phenom” has not fought since losing via guillotine choke to now-UFC Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (watch here) in March 2020. He is on a career-worst stretch of 2-4 with wins over Gregor Gillespie and Edson Barboza, and losses against Oliveira, Rafael dos Anjos, Al Iaquinta and Tony Ferguson. His overall UFC record is 11-6.
Brady vs. Lee was originally scheduled UFC 264: “McGregor vs. Poirier 3” on July 10, but Lee was forced to postpone due to a rib injury. The fight was subsequently rescheduled for Aug. 28 before Brady suffered an injury and pulled out.
It just wasn’t meant to be, apparen tly.
UFC Vegas 35 will be headlined by Edson Barboza vs. Giga Chikadze, with more bouts being added and announced in the days and weeks to come.
