Even Georges St-Pierre can see that his bronze statue looks more like 44th United States President, Barack Obama.
A statue of St-Pierre was erected in his hometown of St-Isidore, Quebec, Canada, last month. Many fans online recognized the man immortalized in bronze form; however, it is/was not the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion they saw. Users on Twitter pointed how the statue of “GSP” reminded them of Obama ... and then the memes poured in.
St-Pierre acknowledged his statue’s resemblance to Obama earlier this week with a compilation of relevant memes Instagram.
“Wait, what? No! My bronze statue looks like me I swear!” the Canadian mixed martial arts (MMA) legend captioned the post. “Man, I love the Internet.”
St-Pierre (26-2) re-retired from MMA after dethroning Michael Bisping as UFC Middleweight champion at UFC 217 in Nov. 2017 (watch highlights). Arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all-time, the illustrious UFC 170-pound champ holds wins over the aforementioned Bisping, Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, Josh Koscheck (twice), Dan Hardy, B.J. Penn (twice), Jon Fitch, Matt Serra Matt Hughes (twice), Sean Sherk and Frank Trigg.
