Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is locked and loaded for the UFC Vegas 29 mixed martial arts (MMA) event this Sat. night (June 19, 2021) on ESPN2/ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining duties fall to featherweight contenders Chan Sung Jung and Dan Ige, who collide for a spot in the 145-pound title chase. Shortly before that action-packed affair gets underway, heavyweight hurters Aleksei Oleinik and Sergey Spivak collide for 265-pound bragging rights — and the distinction of being ranked in the Top 15.

145 lbs.: Chan Sung Jung vs. Dan Ige

Round 1: Low kick lands for Ige. Lead right connects a minute in. Good body shot and jab. Leg kick exchange, good left hook by Ige. Jung ties up, denied, eats a double jab. Right hand downstairs from Ige. Slick uppercut to hook. Two minutes in. Jung with a combination into a double-leg. On top in half guard. Ige regains guard. He tries to kick Jung off, can’t make enough space, eats a right hand. Two minutes to go.

Good top pressure from Jung. He looks for the back, loses position and they stand. Sharp counter right from Jung. Low kick with a minute to go. Left hook connects. Ige with a flurry. 10-9 Ige.

Round 2: Cuffing right hand drops Ige for a moment. Good uppercut from Jung behind it. Left hook connects. Low kick. Counter right again. Ige trying to burst in and getting picked off. He catches a kick, can’t use it. One minute in. They trade leg kicks. Ige jabs, Jung left hook. Overhand right from Jung among the jabs. Two minutes in. Counter hook from Ige. Round 4: Jung constantly countering with his left hand. One minute in. Ige falls short with a combination. Ige body shots, counter 2-3 comes back at him. More left hooks from Jung, who eats a right cross. Hard body shot into the clinch by Ige. Two minutes in. Left hook on the exit. Low kick. Jung with a counter hook, eats a right hand and some jabs that re-open his cut. Another left hook from Ige. Two minutes to go.

1-3 by Jung. Ige low kick. More jabs from Jung. Ige left hook, Jung counter right. Jung catches a body kick for a takedown into guard. Ige launching elbows from his back with a minute to go. Punches from Jung. He passes to side control before the bell. 10-9 Ige.

Round 5: Body kick from Ige, who eats a counter right. Jung landing jabs, step-back left hook. Hard right hands from Ige a minute in. Big left hook upstairs after landing a good right hand downstairs. Jung shoots in response, looks for the back, falls off the top. Ige targeting the body, eats a right hand, shoots. 265 lbs.: Aleksei Oleinik vs. Serghei Spivac

Round 1: Stiff jabs from Spivac, who frames and separates when Oleinik ties up. Hard hooks by Spivac. Trading jabs a minute in. Spivac denies another clinch, then another. Good exchange, decent shots from Oleinik. Spivac with a knee on the break. Oleinik leg kick. Spivac doing a very good job of separating whenever Oleinik tries to clinch. Two minutes in. Oleinik looks for a single-leg, denied. Knee from Spivac. Overhand right lands for Oleinik. Two minutes to go.

Oleinik still stalking after him, eats an uppercut. Spivac circles away from a clinch. Oleinik grabs a rear waist lock, manages to pull Spivac down despite a fence grab and puts in both hooks. Full mount, can’t get the arm triangle. He switches to scarf hold, lands an elbow after losing it. 10-9 Oleinik.

Round 2: Low kicks and overhand right from Oleinik. Spivac with some nice counters and combinations as he retreats. Combination answers Oleinik low kicks. One minute in. Cuffing hook and combination from Spivac. Oleinik pulls guard against the fence. Half guard two minutes in. Oleinik trying to use his underhook. Back to guard. Good punches from Spivac. Two minutes to go.

Spivac with some short elbows from half guard that open a cut above Oleinik’s right eye. One minute to go. Short punches, than an anaconda attempt that he switches to a guillotine. Oleinik pops his head out and settles in top position. Full mount with 20 seconds to go. Another kesa gatame attempt, can’t get it. 10-9 Spivac.

Round 3: Low kick from Oleinik. Jabs from Spivac. More Oleinik leg kicks, body shots inside met by a Spivac knee. 1-2-1 from Spivac. Landing solid punches upstairs. One minute in. Nasty cut by Oleinik’s left eye. Spivac stuffs a takedown and they trade on the fence. Oleinik changes levels, denied with an underhook. Oleinik’s slow to stand and he eats a bushel of punches. Oleinik wades back into the clinch with punches two mintues in. Elbow from Oleinik. Man, he’s bleeding a lot. Overhand rights and hooks land for him. Low kick. 2-1. Spivac counter right and Oleinik shoots again. Two minutes to go.

Oleinik ends up on his back in half guard. One minute to go. Both men throwing strikes. 10-9 Spivac.

135 lbs.: Davey Grant vs. Marlon Vera

Round 1: Grant sending out kicks to start. Teep knocks Vera back for a moment. Spinning back kick. Leg kick from Vera. Low-high goes Grant a minute in. Left hand downstairs, teep downstairs. Wheel kick just blocked. Grant outworking him so far. Vera snaps out a couple of body kicks. Couple of knees from Vera. Grant right hand and low kick. Vera 1-2 two minutes in. Nice counter uppercut lands for Grant as they trade in the center. Big looping left upstairs. Two minutes to go.

Vera catches a body kick and takes him down into guard. Grant works his way up, eats a knee before separating. Vera body kick. Grant’s punches sneak around the guard, body shot lands clean. Straight left by Vera, leg kick. One minute to go. Grant tries a tornado kick, eats a leg kick. Grant’s volume winning the day so far as he gets another swing around Vera’s guard. Low and body kicks from Vera. Grant tries a flurry and just avoids a head kick. 10-9 Grant.

Round 2: Grant winging punches, Vera sending out kicks. 1-2 from Vera, eats a right hand and lands a good leg kick. He puts Grant on the fence, lands knees downstairs. Grant with a hard right on the break. Vera low kick, eats body shots. Both land their power hands, good exchange. Counter two-piece from Grant. Vera lands about half a dozen short elbows in sequence that open a cut on Grant’s forehead. Hard Grant body shot, tries his own elbow. Two minutes in. Glancing wheel kick by Grant. Vera with a pair of close elbows and a hard clinch knee. Grant responds with a takedown into guard. Right hand lands for him. Vera tries to go from a triangle to an omoplata, gives up side control with two minutes to go.

Elbows from Grant. One minute to go. He wraps up an arm-in guillotine as Vera stands, loses it, ends up on the bottom. Heavy elbows from Vera. Punches as well, shrugs off an upkick. More heavy shots until the bell. 10-9 Vera.

Round 3: Right hook lands for Grant, who eats a body kick and shoots into a sprawl. Vera tries to spin to the back, gets both hooks in and wraps up the palm-to-palm. Grant survives, gives up mount. Arm triangle attempt a minute in. He loses it, retains mount and lands punches until Grant looks for his own takedown. Back to the feet, where Grant clubs him with some heavy punches. Vera splits the guard with a straight left, blasts him with elbows and body shots. He trips Grant into half guard two minutes in. Grant is badly bloodied at this point. Elbow from Vera. Good upkick from Grant. He turns for a takedown attempt and gets hurt by an elbow. Two minutes to go.

Vera back on top in guard. Elbows. Grant turns to his knees with a kimura grip. One minute to go. Vera slips his arm free and takes mount. Now the back and the RNC’s in deep. Grant somehow survives. 10-8 Vera.

Final result: Vera def. Grant by unanimous decision


145 lbs.: Julian Erosa vs. Seungwoo Choi

Round 1: Choi throwing heat early, stings Erosa with a left hook. Hard counter right. 1-2 from Erosa. Combination lands for him as Choi throws from the hip. One minute in. Erosa tries a head kick, lands a counter hook. Another 2-3 from Choi and this one puts Erosa down. Erosa goes out during the ground-and-pound and, though he pops back up, the ref calls it.

Final result: Choi def. Erosa by KO (punches)


185 lbs.: Bruno Silva vs. Wellington Turman

Round 1: Turman shoots, grabs a rear waist lock. Two warnings already for Silva grabbing the fence. Turman pulls him away from the fence and hits a high-amplitude takedown before putting in both hooks. Silva slips out and puts him on the fence, where he has to fight off a kimura. Turman uses it to hit a trip to the front headlock, then looks for a high-crotch. Continuing to toss Silva around but he continues to pop right back up. Turman retakes his back on the fence, playing backpack. Silva warned for grabbing the fence again. Two minutes to go.

Short right hands from Turman. Silva grabs the fence again, then slips out the back door into guard. Heavy punches from Silva. One minute to go. More punches from Silva. Turman tries to invert, which allows Silva to put him to sleep with some huge shots.

Final result: Silva def. Turman by KO (punches)


170 lbs.: Matt Brown vs. Dhiego Lima

Round 1: Brown on the advance. Sending out kicks, lands a low kick. One minute in. Body kick lands for Brown. Calf kick from Lima digs in. Left hook downstairs. Brown jabs the body, eats another calf kick. Two minutes in. Hard leg kick from Brown in return. Another hard calf kick by Lima, staying at range.Two minutes to go.

Brown tries a head kick. More Lima low kicks. He shoots, denied. One minute to go. Another Lima calf kick. Brown just not committing to his attacks as Lima picks away. Matador moment from Lima. Brown fires a left hook, eats a calf kick. 10-9 Lima.

Round 2: Good combination from Lima. Brown finally manages to get him in the clinch, has to fight off a takedown. He does so a minute in. Double low kick from Lima. Brown low kick. Lima shoots, hauls him to the opposite fence. Two minutes in. They separate. Brown back on the advance, lands a straight right. Lima puts him on the fence again. Once they separate, Brown fires a right hand down the pipe that sends Lima down face-first. Wow.

Final result: Brown def. Lima by KO (punch)


205 lbs.: Aleksa Camur vs. Nicolae Negumereanu

Round 1: Stiff jab from Camur to start. To the body now. Negumereanu looking for combinations, eats a counter hook. Camur body shot a minute in. Left hook connects, then a leg kick. Good right from Negumereanu. Camur circling, landing jabs. Left hook connects. Hard 3-2 two minutes in. Negumereanu continuing to stomp after him, tanks an uppercut. Incredible close-range slugfest and Camur gets stung. Negumereanu puts him on the fence and takes him down into side control. Two minutes to go.

Camur working his way up against the fence, does so and separates. Counter 3-2 from Camur. One minute to go. More Camur jabs. 3-2, brief brawl. Bombs from Negumereanu, walks through hooks. Left hook lands for Negumereanu. Camur uppercut and left hook. Negumereanu punches, Camur knee. 10-9 Camur.

Round 2: Early right hand from Negumereanu. Another on the counter. Camur seems really frazzled. Camur leg kick, Negumereanu right hand. Hard 3-2 and overhand from Camur. Good knee lands and Negumereanu puts him on the fence. One minute in. Negumereanu keeping him there. Two minutes in. Camur unable to dislodge Negumereanu, who’s been grabbing the fence for like half a minute. Knee from Camur. Negumereanu kneeing the thigh, still grabbing the fence. Two minutes to go.

Negumereanu gets another warning for grabbing the fence, eats a right hand. Jabs from Camur. They trade right hands. One minute to go. Left hook from Camur, one from Negumereanu in return, Camur 3-2. Again, met by a counter right from Negumereanu. Camur leg kick, eats a counter right. Big Negumereanu left hook. 10-9 Negumereanu.

Round 3: Low kick from Camur, body jab. Negumereanu 1-2, continuing to press forward. Camur takes a low blow. Negumereanu back to chasing with punches. One minute in. Camur tries to shoot, eats a right hand, lands a left hook. Negumereanu sprinting after him with punches. Camur overhand and left hook. Jab exchange, Camur left hook. Camur left hook, Negumereanu right hand. Two minutes in. Camur counter jab, short elbow. Negumereanu puts him on the fence. They trade jabs after separating. Camur shoots, denied, eats an elbow. 1-2. Round 1: Jandiroba with a nice counter right as she takes a body kick. Good right cross, heavy shots against the fence. One minute in. Glancing right hand from JAndiroba. Murata lands a check hook. Murata puts her on the fence two minutes in. Trading knees inside. Jockeying for position. Jandiroba jumps guard and eats some heavy shots on the ground. Brief triangle attempt, denied. Two minutes to go.

Lovely armbar transition from Jandiroba. Murata defending, patiently working her arm free. One minute to go. Good right hand from Murata after defending. She stops a triangle attempt. 10-9 Jandiroba.

Round 2: Murata’s got some major swelling around her right eye. 1-2 from Jandiroba a minute in. They trade right hands. Jandiroba 1-2. Clean head kick lands for her. Murata shoots and puts her on the fence. Two minutes in. Jandiroba tries a head kick on the break. Jandiroba right hand. Again. Two minutes to go.

Murata’s left arm has been dangling all round. Jandiroba combination. More right hands. They trade big right hands on the fence. Another Jandiroba 1-2. Murata literally can’t raise her left arm to protect herself. More Jandiroba right hands. Two more right hands. 10-8 Jandiroba.

They call it off between rounds over the busted arm.

170 lbs.: Matthew Semelsberger vs. Khaos Williams

Round 1: Early low kicks from Williams. He blitzes, eats a right hand. 1-2 from Semelsberger and Williams charges again, landing a body kick and seemingly hurting Semelsberger with a right through the guard. Williams puts him on the fence. One minute in. Knees to the thigh from Williams. Hard punches on the break with two minutes to go. Williams flurries and gets buzzed by a counter right. Trading low kicks. Body kick and counter right by Semelsberger. Two minutes to go.

Another flurry from Williams. Both land on the fence. Hard combo from Semelsberger with a minute to go. Williams lead right and low kick. Semelsberger on the advance. 10-9 Williams.

Round 2: Heavy exchange to start the round, both men landing. Body kick exchange. Williams tries a head kick. Counter 1-2 knocks Williams back. One minute in. Double right hand by Semelsberger prompts a blitz from Williams. Williams puts him on the fence. They separate. Two minutes in. Semelsberger tries a flying knee. Overhand left whiffs, brief clinch. Round 1: Martinez punches his way into the clinch against the fence. Parisian framing as Martinez tries to chip away. They separate. Stiff jab from Parisian, eats a hard right hand. One minute in. Elbow lands for Martinez. Right hand, another elbow. Good knee to the body from Parisian after getting some brief separation. Two minutes in. Round 1: Trading kicks to start. Counter left catches Silva coming in and sends him to the mat. Glenn drowns him in punches until a second knockdown forces the ref into action.

125 lbs.: Casey O’Neill vs. Lara Procopio

Round 1: O’Neill on the front foot early. She ties up, can’t get the trip and they trade shots in the clinch. Left hand from Procopio on the break, then a leg kick. Nice combo by O’Neill a minute in. Counter right knocks her back. Back to the clinch. Procopio landing the better shots in close. Hard exchange in the center. Two minutes in. Procopio low kick. Left hook lands upstairs, then a counter jab. Combo from O’Neill, who eats a right hand and some knees in the clinch. Procopio puts her on the fence. Two minutes to go.

Outside trip puts Procopio on top in side control. O’Neill regains guard and kicks her away. Both land before separating. Combos by O’Neill, eats a jab. One minute to go. Procopio changes levels, puts her on the fence. O’Neill ends up on top in the scramble. 10-9 Procopio.

Round 2: Early combination from O’Neill. Procopio times a knee for a takedown. O’Neill active from her back, regains guard. Elbows from O’Neill, who kicks her away again and stands. Jabs and low kicks. Counter right, combination, knees in the clinch. She puts Procopio on the fence two minutes in. Procopio changes levels, ends up on her back and eats some heavy elbows. Procopio manages to regain full guard. She brings her legs up, nothing doing, eats shots. Procopio turns for a leg and O’Neill attacks a toe hold. She loses it, Procopio still chasing the heel hook. O’Neill avoids it and goes back to dropping strikes. 10-9 O’Neill.

Round 3: O’Neill continuing to put the pace on her, trips her down from the clinch. Odd rear crucifix, landing hammerfists. One minute in. Nice transition to full back control. Now mount, then the back once again. Body triangle. Procopio gets to her feet and O’Neill wraps up the RNC. Procopio slowly crumples to the mat and she’s unconscious when the ref pulls O’Neill off.
