UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is coaching against top 145-pound contender Brian Ortega on season 29 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) and is expected to face “T-City” with the strap on the line at some point later this year.
Just don’t expect any butt slaps or bro hugs.
Volkanovski has been rather vocal about his disdain for “fake” Ortega, which may explain why “The Great” is making it rain in “T-City.” I could have done without the Instagram crack attack; but hey, that’s just a personal preference.
Chalk it up to “Aussie humor.”
Volkanovski (22-1) captured the featherweight crown from Max Holloway at UFC 245 back in late 2019, then defended it against “Blessed” in a closely-contested rematch at UFC 251 the following summer. A subsequent bout with COVID kept “The Great” from his original “T-City” title defense at UFC 260.
Prior to burying “The Korean Zombie” at UFC Fight Island 6, Ortega (15-1, 1 NC) suffered the first defeat of his professional career in a lopsided loss to Holloway at UFC 231, but the improvement on display against Jung has most of the MMA fanbase convinced “T-City” can give the champ a run for his money.
Or a kick in the pills for yesterday’s liquid lesson.
