Longtime welterweight veteran Rory MacDonald has competed in KOTC, UFC, Bellator MMA, and now PFL, so it’s fair to call “Red King” something of an expert when it comes to the world’s top talent.
Which does not exist exclusively inside the UFC bubble.
“I’ve trained with so many guys that have never been in the UFC and they’ve been some of the toughest rounds, as well as the guys in the UFC,” MacDonald told MMA Fighting. “Some guys in the UFC are just not even as good as some of these guys I’ve worked with in the past. There’s definitely no merit there. It’s just something people assume and because of the promotion and the big show, it’s assumed that.”
Perhaps this pound-for-pound great was under that same assumption.
MacDonald (22-6-1) will look to win his second straight and take one step closer to the PFL $1 million payout when he continues in the 2021 playoffs against fellow UFC export Gleison Tibau on June 17 in Atlantic City, NJ.
