Former UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor upset the strongman community when he told the combat sports media he “folded” the 6’9”, 400-pound bruiser who played “The Mountain” on Game of Thrones, a far cry from their brief sparring depicted in this video.
Hoping to rebuild that bridge is fellow UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier, who spent some time with four-time World’s Strongest Man Brian Shaw. “The Diamond” got much more physical with Shaw than McGregor did with “The Mountain” back in 2015 — and appeared to have a lot more fun.
This video is a great reminder of why UFC has weight classes.
“Forget about the weight advantage, everybody’s gonna say I submitted you,” Shaw joked.
“That was all smoke and mirrors and cameras,” Poirier fired back.
Poirier is expected to complete his UFC trilogy with McGregor in July. As for Shaw, he’s fresh off his win at his own “Shaw Classic” last December and is currently working on his YouTube channel.
