Randy Brown earned a rare one-arm choke finish earlier tonight (Sat., Apr. 24, 2021) at UFC 261 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., when “Rude Boy” stopped veteran Charles Oliveira with a first-round submission (rear-naked choke).
This fight was wild as both welterweights came out firing in the “Prelims” headliner on ESPN. Oliveira did most of his damage with vicious lower leg kicks that wobbled Brown more than once. Brown returned favor with power shots from range and eventually caught Oliveira flush and dropped him to the canvas. Oliveira would recover and return to his feet, but that’s when Brown locked up a one-arm rear-naked choke. “Cowboy” tried to power through but Brown’s strength allowed him to squeeze with just one limb. Oliveira eventually tapped to the rare submission.

This was a great performance for Brown in a big spot on ESPN. The 30-year-old welterweight has been mostly trading wins and loses since his UFC debut in 2016, but has looked more dangerous in his recent fights and could be ready to make a run at the division’s top 15. After all, this is Brown’s third finish in his last four trips to the Octagon.
