Frank Mir vs Steve Cunningham boxing match on tap for April 17 with Antonio Tarver out

Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission will not license Antonio Tarver to box Frank Mir on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren pay-per-view (PPV) because “The Magic Man” is 52 years old and hasn’t thrown a punch in over six years, falling far short of the requirements in place for geriatric pugilists.

Enter former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham.

Like Tarver before him, “USS” will need to pass medicals and prove to the commission he’s fit to compete, a valid concern considering Cunningham, who turns 45 in July, has not boxed since losing to Andrew Tabiti back in summer 2017.

As for Mir, 41, his last fight came against Roy Nelson for Bellator MMA in Oct. 2019, a unanimous decision nod that snapped a four-fight losing streak. The April 17 event set for Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will mark the former UFC champ’s pro boxing debut.
