Grant Dawson just beat the clock earlier tonight (Sat., Mar. 20, 2021) at UFC Vegas 22 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nev., when the surging prospect stopped lightweight veteran Leonardo Santos via knockout with one second left in the third and final round.
Dawson struggled to take Santos down throughout this entire fight. He was forced to exchange with the Brazilian on the feet and did have his moments. Dawson was winning the fight entering the third but still kept pushing for the takedown. He finally got it and started to lean on Santos from top position. With moments left in the round Dawson was able to land a hammer fist to Santos. The veteran was hurt and Dawson went in for the kill. He landed multiple hammer fists that put Santos out cold and forced the referee to step in with one second left on the clock.

This was Dawson’s lightweight debut in UFC and he looked pretty darn good. Santos is a savvy veteran and prevented all but one of Dawson’s takedown attempts, but Dawson was in control this entire fight and even hurt the Brazilian on the feet a few times. It will be interesting to see what UFC does with Dawson moving forward, especially considering the youngster called out Clay Guida after this win.
