UFC Vegas 22 is set to go down this weekend (Sat., March 20, 2021) inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring a pivotal Middleweight bout between top contenders Kevin Holland and Derek Brunson.
Holland has been a star on the rise thanks to his ascension up the ranks in 2020, competing a staggering five times in a span of just eight months. But before he takes on Brunson, let’s take a trip down Memory Lane to see one of his most memorable performances.
In his last outing, he faced off against long-time veteran, Ronaldo Souza, at UFC 256 in Dec. 2020. After getting taken down early by “Jacare,” Holland showed his cool by refusing to panic when having one of the best submissions specialists in the history of the sport on top of him. Instead, Holland landed some vicious elbows from the bottom.
After fighting his way back up, he eventually got taken down again. But just like the first time, Holland wasn’t fazed one bit. Instead, “Trail Blazer” landed a hard right hand from his back that dazed Souza, forcing him to retreat a little. Once Holland realized he was hurt, he unloaded a few more bombs from his back. He eventually made his way up to his feet and dropped some heavy leather on a folded “Jacare” to put an end to the fight.
It was truly a special performance.
Now, Holland looks to earn his sixth straight win in hopes of climbing closer to a shot at the Middleweight title, which is currently in the possession of Israel Adesanya. If he can get a big victory of Brunson, he could very well get it.
