Curtis Blaydes on knockout loss to Derrick Lewis - ‘Sometimes you’re the hammer, sometimes you’re the nail’

It’s been a few days since Curtis Blaydes suffered a devastating knockout loss at the hands of Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC Vegas 19 (see it here), snapping his four-fight win streak and putting his championship dreams temporarily on ice. With the dust settled, “Razor” is talking about his defeat to “Black Beast,” his first setback in two years.

Despite getting his title shot taken from him, Blaydes is keeping a positive attitude as best he can.

“Sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail,” Blaydes wrote on Instagram. “This game has a razor thin margin for error and I just got caught, it happens. Props to Derrick. No shame in it my head’s still held high.”

The loss is especially tough because Blaydes was in full control for the first six minutes, beating Lewis at his own game in the striking department before getting caught with a nasty uppercut that put him out cold. Lewis followed up with two massive blows on an already unconscious fighter, which drew the ire of some.

Blaydes will now go back to the drawing board and look to bounce back from just his third loss inside the Octagon. On the bright side, there is plenty of action going down in the 265-pound weight class in the coming weeks, which could provide some clarity as to who “Razor” could fight next.

In the meantime, care to drop a suggestion or three for Blaydes’ next potential opponent?
