Two top women’s Flyweight contenders will collide in a meaningful showdown when Katlyn Chookagian faces off against Viviane Araujo at a scheduled Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night event on ESPN+. That’s according to ESPN’s Brett Okamato, who reports that the fight is expected to take place on May 15, 2021; however, a location for the card has yet-to-be finalized.
Chookagian — who is currently the No. 2-seeded 125 pounder on UFC’s official rankings — is coming off a highly-impressive win over Cynthia Calvillo at UFC 255 in Nov. 2020. Prior to that, “Blonde Fighter” came up short against Jessica Andrade. Indeed, it was a busy year for Chookagian in 2020, competing four times, including taking part in her first-ever UFC title fight, coming up short against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 247.
Araujo, meanwhile, is currently riding a two-fight win steak with her most recent victory coming against Roxanne Modafferi last month at UFC Fight Island 8. In fact, her lone loss during her run came in 2017 against Jessica Eye, a unanimous defeat at UFC 245. A win over Chookagian would undoubtedly elevate Araujo’s stock ... and maybe even get her into the Top 5.
