UFC 258 live stream results, ‘Usman vs Burns’ play-by-play updates

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently put the finishing touches on its UFC 258 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place TONIGHT (Sat., Feb. 13, 2021) by way of ESPN+ from inside its APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining duties will be handled by welterweight rivals Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns, who battle for “The Nigerian Nightmare’s” 170-pound belt. In UFC 258’s co-main event, women’s flyweight fighting sensation Maycee Barber looks for a return to form against the rough-and-tumble Alexa Grasso. will deliver LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the entire UFC 258 fight card below, starting with the early ESPN+ “Prelims” matches, which are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET, then the remaining undercard balance on ESPN/ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET, before the PPV main card start time at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+ PPV.

Round 1: Burns takes the center immediately, and not long after, drops Usman with an overhand right. Burns denies a level change and patiently looks to press the advantage. He throws a head kick, slips a minute in. Usman kicking at his legs. Burns tries a fancy kick off his back. Usman punches his body, continues to boot his thighs. Right hand connects, more leg kicks. Burns scrambles to his feet, lands a knee, eats some body punches in the clinch. Jab from Usman. Two minutes to go.

Burns counters a low kick with a jab. Hard leg kick from the champ answered in kind. Low kicks, right cross by Burns. Cross counter, tries a knee. One minute to go. Usman landing jabs. Burns shoots, denied. Head kick attempt. Good right hand lands and he tries to follow up. 10-9 Burns.

Round 2: Burns back on the advance. Usman landing jabs. Low kick exchange. Usman catches a kick and lands a right hook a minute in. Cross counter from Burns lands clean. Jab from Usman in return. Two minutes in. Burns with a counter right, Usman with a stiff jab. Hard counter right stings Burns. Usman tries to open up on the fence, denies a takedown. More stiff jabs, overhand right. Burns’ legs are unsteady. Overhand right again. Straight left from southpaw. Two minutes to go.

More stinging jabs by Usman. Low kick from Burns, eating jabs from both stances. Burns trying to force him back, gets dropped by a jab while throwing a low kick. Usman waves him up. One minute to go. They trade in the center. Usman low kick. Burns shoots under a jab, denied. 10-9 Usman.

Round 3: Usman drops Burns with a southpaw jab in the opening seconds, then punishes Burns with ground-and-pound for the finish.

125 lbs.: Maycee Barber vs. Alexa Grasso

Round 1: Both women looking for low kicks to start. Barber marches into the clinch and takes her to the fence. Jockeying for position. One minute in. Grasso separates and they return to the center. Hard 2-3 from Grasso two minutes in. Barber charges into the clinch, gets reversed on the fence. Trading knees to the body. Two minutes to go.

Continuing to jockey for position against the fence. Both fire knees to the body. Hard elbow by Barber on the break, walks into a left hand. Hard counters from Grasso, right hand from Barber, back to the clinch. Knees to the thigh from Grasso. 10-9 Grasso.

Round 2: Barber staying mobile. Both falling short with their early strikes. Hard combo by Grasso. Two-piece behind it. Barber tries a head kick. One minute in. Heavy left hook appears to buzz Barber and Grasso starts stalking. Barber manages to tie up and put her on the fence. Good trade on the break. Two minutes in. Barber retakes double underhooks. Knee to the body lands. Grasso lands a couple in return and separates. Barber with a flurry, walks into a left hand. Two minutes to go.

Barber lands a body kick, Grasso slips throwing one of her own. She launches upkicks, then uses an armbar to sweep into side control. One minute to go. Looking to set up an arm triangle. Beautiful pass to the correct side and she looks for the back. Both hooks in. 10-9 Grasso.

Round 3: Barber tries a head kick to start. Staying at range. One minute in. Counter two-piece lands for Grasso. She takes Barber to the fence with double underhooks. Knees to the body. Two minutes in. Barber manages to hit an inside trip and set up in guard. Hard shots land for her, knee on the way up. She’s pressing forward, counters from Grasso. Barber swinging for the fences, ties up. Knee from Grasso. Two minutes to go.

Trading in the clinch. Barber charges after her again and changes levels. Grasso defends and they trade knees to the body. Clinch shots from Barber. Good elbow. One minute to go. Jockeying for position. Knees from Grasso. Barber lands on the break, goes back to charging. Counter three-piece by Grasso. Barber ducks a right hand for a late takedown. 10-9 Barber.

185 lbs.: Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch

Round 1: Low kicks from Heinisch to start, then a quick level change. Gastelum hits a granby roll to get back to his feet and look for his own takedown. Heinisch defends with a kimura, unable to keep Gastelum’s arm bent as he cranks. Gastelum pops his arm out a minute in and looks for the back. He tries a lift, can’t get him down. Nice takedown, has to fight off the kimura again. He’s on top in mount, though, and he waits it out. Heinisch uses the fence to roll free and separate. Right hand lands for him. Low kick from Gastelum. Two minutes to go.

Heinisch tries a head kick, takes a combo. Gastelum puts him on the fence. He changes levels, can’t keep him down. Nice lift, still can’t establish. One minute to go. Gastelum tries a left hand on the break. Body kick connects. Low kick from Heinisch in return. They trade right hands in the center. 10-9 Gastelum.

Round 2: Trading low kicks to start. Overhand right from Heinisch. Gastelum on the front food this round, eats a left hook. One minute in. Well-timed flying knee lands for Heinisch, but Gastelum takes him down into half guard. Heinisch makes it back up against the fence. Two minutes in. Gastelum lands an elbow on the break. Jab connects. Low kick exchange. Gastelum avoids a right hand and puts him on the fence again. He changes levels, can’t get it. Two minutes to go.

Heinisch tries a head kick. Good level change by Gastelum, who takes him to the fence once again. Knee to the head. Can’t get the lift. They separate. Heinisch with some decent punches, eats a 1-2 in return with a minute to go. Body kick from Gastelum. Heinisch body kick. Gastelum 1-2 met by a body and low kick. Reactive shot by Gastelum and he takes him to the fence again. 10-9 Gastelum.

Round 3: Gastelum continuing to push the pace. Counter right hand from Heinisch. Good blast double, can’t keep Gastelum down and gets pressed against the fence. one minute in. Punches from Gastelum on the exit. He catches a kick, lands a knee to the body. Good straight left. Sneaky uppercut starts a combo. 1-2s. Hard overhand right by Heinisch and a flying knee, which allows Gastelum to slam him into side control. Heinisch manages to sweep and take the back, inserting both hooks. Two minutes to go.

Gastelum scrambles his way free and sets up in guard. Heinisch makes it back to his feet and rolls free. Clinch knees from Gastelum with a minute to go. Heinisch body shot. Gastelum sprawls on a shot and takes him to the fence. Hard body knee and 1-2. Heinisch hits another double-leg and lands on the way up. Gastelum responds with his own double-leg and lands a few shots before the bell. 10-9 Gastelum.

Final result: Gastelum def. Heinisch by unanimous decision

145 lbs.: Brian Kelleher vs. Ricky Simon

Round 1: Kelleher pressing forward, taken down into guard 15 seconds in. Simon landing punches, tries to jump on his back. Continuing to chip away and Kelleher’s cut. Knees to the thigh as Kelleher tries to stand. He makes it to his feet, tries the guillotine, ends up on the bottom again. Simon makes it to half guard, looks to set up the arm triangle. Two minutes in. Heavy top pressure by Simon. Kelleher looks for a kimura, gets to his knees. Simon tries to spin to the back, avoids a guillotine and they separate. That cut’s really bothering Kelleher. Two minutes to go.

Simon tries a 3-2, eats a low kick. Great reactive double-leg puts him back on top in guard. He gets to half guard, hunts the arm triangle again. Kelleher makes it back to his feet with a minute to go. Simon shoots, denied. Kelleher tries to hop in with a knee. 10-9 Simon.

Round 2: Kelleher low kick, Simon body shot. Jabs from Simon, eats a front kick to the face. Hard body shot lands for him, then a leg kick. Right cross. One minute in. Kelleher tries a head kick, takes an overhand right. Another hard front kick by Kelleher, but Simon catches it for a takedown and avoids a leglock while landing hammerfists. Back to the feet. Brief clinch. Low kick from Kelleher, blocks a spinning back fist. Two minutes in. Right hand to southpaw 3-2 by Simon. He checks a low kick, lands a hook, fires low kicks of his own that Kelleher checks. Simon shoots, pops his head out of the guillotine again. Two minutes to go.

Kelleher makes it back to his feet, stuck against the fence. One minute to go. They separate. Sharp right cross lands for Simon. Flying knee attempt, low blow from Kelleher at the bell. 10-9 Simon.

Round 3: Kelleher pressuring early. Low kick from Simon. Jab lands for Kelleher, Simon comes back with a series of up-elbows and a leg kick. Well-timed level change, One minute in. Jockeying for position against the fence. Simon changes levels, avoids the guillotine again two minutes in. Short rights from the top. Kelleher looking for a kimura. Two minutes to go.

Simon looking for a kimura of his own, gets to side control, then sprawl position. Good elbow by Simon as they stand. He looks for the back and forces Kelleher to a knee. One minute to go. Simon tries to spin on the break. Hard counter left hook. Kelleher with a glancing front kick, then a teep. 10-9 Simon.

Final result: Simon def. Kelleher by unanimous decision

185 lbs.: Julian Marquez vs. Maki Pitolo

Round 1: Pitolo comes out swinging, firing kicks and heavy punches that prompt Marquez to tie up. Pitolo reverses on the fence. Brutal elbow and body shot, then a takedown into half guard that avoids a guillotine. One minute in. Short left hands from Pitolo. Strong control so far. Two minutes in. Looking for the back on the way up. Two minutes to go.

Holding onto the rear waist lock. Nice trip, can’t retake the back. Marquez turns to face him. One minute to go. Marques tries a whizzer throw, then wraps up a guillotine as Pitolo stands. Good defense by Pitolo to pop his head out. Hard punches by Marquez on the break. 10-9 Pitolo.

Round 2: Marquez pressing forward. They trade right hands, good uppercut by Pitolo and a head kick attempt. Pitolo takes one to the nards. They get right back to slugging when they resume. Marquez slips and Pitolo jumps on him, looking for the back again. Knee to the body. Marquez trying to turn into him, gets dragged to the mat. Back up, back down. Pitolo tries to re-shoots behind some heavy strikes and Marquez wraps up the guillotine again. Pitolo turns to his knees to get out, prompting Marquez to land some heavy shots from turtle. Two minutes to go.

He tries to take the back and Pitolo shrugs him off over the top, moving quickly to mount. Marquez manages to regain half guard. 10-9 Pitolo.

Round 3: Hard low kick from Pitolo to start. Marquez backs him up, lands against the fence. Return fire from Pitolo. Hard counter hook. Low kick briefly sends Marquez to a knee. Marquez with some good shots against the fence, eats a left hook. One minute in. Continuing to exchange as Marquez presses forward. Knee to spinning elbow and he looks for the guillotine again, then hurts Pitolo with clinch knees. Pitolo changes levels, spins him down while avoiding a guillotine. Looking for the back, one hook in and his forearm under the chin. He doesn’t have the angle and Marquez slips out, looking for back control of his own and landing punches. Pitolo stands, tries to change levels again. Two minutes to go.

Marquez avoids a single-leg. He tries to hop in with a knee, gets clinched. He turns into Pitolo and throws heat on the break. Pitolo looking hurt, absorbs a massive knee that prompts a shot. Marquez looks for the guillotine setup again, then transitions to an anaconda choke that forces the tap. What a fight.

Final result: Marquez def. Pitolo by submission (anaconda choke)

185 lbs.: Anthony Hernandez vs. Rodolfo Vieira

Round 1: Vieira shoots in the opening seconds and dumps Hernandez to the mat against the fence. On top in half guard, now hunting the back. Both hooks in. Loses it, takes mount. One minute in. Vieira trying to set up the arm triangle. First two tries are unsuccessful, so he steps over for an armbar as Hernandez tries to scramble up. Good scramble by Hernandez to make it back to his feet, immediately gets dumped back down two minutes in. Right hands from Vieira as Hernandez gets back up. Vieira re-shoots, still can’t get it. Two minutes to go.

They separate and Hernandez comes out swinging, sprawling on a shot and hurting Vieira with a right hand. Vieira shoots and Hernandez forces him to his back with a guillotine, then hunts an anaconda choke. It’s not there, but Hernandez manages to stuff the next shot. Hernandez storming after him with punches and there’s another sprawl. Battering Vieira as he tries to stand. Huge left hand and another right hand but Vieira manages to hit a desperation shot. Hernandez wraps up an inverted triangle in response. 10-9 Hernandez.

Round 2: Hernandez pouring it on, tries a flying knee and gets taken down for it. Vieira tries to jump on his back, but Hernandez slips out the back door. Vieira tries to pull half guard, drops hard punches. Vieira’s completely spent. Hernandez blasts him with punches and a clean head kick on the way up. Hard knee, harder elbows. Hernandez sprawls on another shot, considers an anaconda choke, then falls back for a guillotine, successfully submitting one of the greatest jiu-jitsu players alive.

Final result: Hernandez def. Vieira by submission (guillotine choke)

170 lbs.: Dhiego Lima vs. Belal Muhammad

Round 1: Muhammad on the advance. Good combination into a level change, can’t get it. Head kick attempt. Lima looking for jabs, puts a finger in Muhammad’s eye. One minute in. More jabs from Lima, Muhammad sending out right hands. Overhand right stings Lima’s eye. Good body shots by Muhammad. Lima giving ground, landing jabs, eats a body kick. Left hook and low kick land for him. Two minutes in. Body kick from Muhammad. Combination against the fence. Good low kick by Lima. Another. Muhammad continues to press forward, digs a right to the body and answers a low kick with jabs. Two minutes to go.

1-2 from Muhammad. Straight left. Jabs landing. Overhand right. Low kick from Lima, eats a right hand in return. Muhammad with a left hook into a level change. Lima defends it well. One minute to go. Body shot and right hook by Muhammad, who gets buzzed by a counter right. Low kicks from Lima, body shots from Muhammad. Nice exchange. Body shots at the bell. 10-9 Muhammad.

Round 2: Muhammad back on the advance. Lima sending out punches off the back foot. Trading jabs. Body kick and combination from Muhammad. One minute in. Body shots met by a Lima low kick. Muhammad fakes a knee and shoots, denied. Overhand right connects and they trade on the fence. Solid right and leg kick from Lima. Another low kick. Muhammad combination, Lima low kick. Another low kick. Straight left by Muhammad, right hook. Another left hand. Two minutes to go.

Muhammed with a left hand to a level change. Lima still manages to defend and lands a low kick in return. More. Muhammad shoots, denied. 10-9 Lima.

Round 3: Lima lands a counter right, goes back to the leg kicks. Muhammad continuing to pressure. Hard overhand right and he takes a finger in the eye. He elects not to take a break. Head kick attempt, he shoots, looks for the back. One minute in. Denied, shoots again, denied. Overhand right connects. Lima tries to answer with body shots but is visibly tired. Muhammad opening up against the fence, shrugs off a counter right. Lima body shot, Muhammad combination. Lima stuffs another takedown, lands a body kick. Muhammad putting the pace on him, eats a low-high combo, lands a two-piece upstairs. Sneaky head kick, short elbow. Two minutes to go.

Lima looking spent, still throwing back. Big right cross stings Lima, who tries a tired-looking shot. Both bang the body. Straight right from Muhammad, both hit the body again. Muhammad shoots, still can’t get it, lands an overhand right. Another shot and this one puts Lima on his rear. One minute to go. Muhammad takes his back on the way up. Playing backpack, landing shots. He tries a Suloev stretch in the waning seconds. 10-9 Muhammad.

Final result: Muhammad def. Lima by unanimous decision

115 lbs.: Mallory Martin vs. Polyana Viana

Round 1: Martin looking for early low-high combinations. She catches a body kick and Viana jumps guard. One minute in. Martin staying tight as Viana holds onto an overhook. Looking to set up a triangle and there it is. Elbows from Viana. Martin surviving well so far. Viana switches to an americana, then an armbar with two minutes to go.

Viana continues to crank on the armbar and there’s the tap.

Final result: Viana def. Martin by submission (armbar)

140 lbs.: Andre Ewell vs. Chris Gutierrez

Round 1: Ewell sends out an early combination. Staying at range so far. Looking for long straight shots. Gutierrez tries a head kick. Counter knee. One minute in. Ewell rips the body, eats a leg kick in return. Gutierrez threatens to spin, tries another high kick. Ewell with a heavy overhand left. Gutierrez tries an Imanari roll two minutes in, settles for a glancing leg kick. Gutierrez with very limited volume so far as Ewell potshots. Triple left hand with two minutes to go.

Body kick from Gutierrez, counter left by Ewell. Ewell to the body. Gutierrez wades into teh clinch against the fence. One minute to go. Knee to the body. Another, harder one on the break. Ewell with a 1-2 downstairs. In the waning seconds, Gutierrez catches him leaning with a head kick for a knockdown, then cracks him with a knee and punches. 10-9 Gutierrez.

Round 2: Low kick from Gutierrez, then a lead-leg hook kick. Ewell goes low-high with lefts. Low kick, head kick attempt. Hard low kick by Gutierrez, checks one in return and looks for a head kick. One minute in. Ewell to the body once again. Teep. Circling along the fence. Oblique kick. Ewell’s slowed the pace back down. Counter left. Gutierrez low kick. Body kick to low kick. Ewell forces him back with a combination. Two minutes to go.

Low kick from Gutierrez. Another answered in kind. Triple left by Ewell, body kick from Gutierrez. Another left by Ewell. He tries a spinning back kick. Gutierrez with a glancing high kick. Ewell to the body again. One minute to go. Body kick by Gutierrez. Ewell catches a kick for a takedown and tries to fall back for a heel hook. He cranks, but no dice. 10-9 Ewell.

Round 3: Trading low kicks to start. Heavy one seems to hurt Ewell. Still moving well. One minute in. Gutierrez tries a spinning back kick, then grazes him with a wheel kick. Leg kick lands. Another. They trade in the center. Ewell with a 1-2 downstairs. Counter right catches Ewell coming in, follows up with heavy low kicks and a right hand. Stalking against the fence. Wheel kick misses, 1-2 does not. Two minutes in. Ewell steps in for a body shot, eats a head kick and leg kicks before Gutierrez ties up. He separates, lands a body kick. Two minutes to go.

Overhand left by Ewell, who stumbles a bit. Gutierrez misses a wheel kick, lands low kicks, shrugs off a spinning back fist. Head kick attempt by Gutierrez, another cracking leg kick. More, punishing both legs. Ewell tries a jumping knee. One minute to go. Ewell overhand left, Gutierrez leg kick. Wheel kick misses. More leg kicks. Acrobatic head kick, punches on teh fence. Ewell tries to tie up and Gutierrez slings him to the mat, hunting a last-second triangle. 10-9 Gutierrez.

170 lbs.: Gabe Green vs. Phil Rowe

Round 1: Trading low kicks early. Straight right from Rowe, looking for combos, eats another low kick. Nice left hook, combo from Green in return. Good low kicks from Green so far. One minute in. Rowe continuing to circle, nice cuffing right. Head kick attempt. Green lands a low kick and ties up on the fence. Jockeying for position. Two minutes in. Green completes the takedown into half guard. Rowe responds by sweeping into mount. Hunting for the arm triangle, loses it. Two minutes to go.

North-south for Rowe. Now he retakes mount. Green responds with single-leg X-guard, ends up still on the bottom in half guard. Rowe goes from the back to a triangle attempt. Green scrambles up and latches onto an arm triangle, wrenching Rowe to the mat but losing it. Back to the feet. Rowe pressing him against the fence. 10-9 Rowe.

Round 2: Early slip from Rowe after taking a low kick and Green follows him down into guard, landing on the way up. Green on the attack, eats a knee downstairs. Good 1-2 by Rowe, body kicks. Green responds with a low blow. Green immediately hurts Rowe with an overhand right when they resume and tries to swarm. Rowe ties up, then takes a punch directly to the cup. No point deduction a minute in. Green with another hard combination. Rowe still throwing off his back foot, looks for a guillotine as Green ducks in. Green pops his head out, gets pressed against the fence. He reverses two minutes in. Jockeying for position once again. Green separates, lands a straight left. Two minutes to go.

Huge right hand from Rowe, then another. Green walking through it so far. Rowe tries to change levels, lands some more sharp counters. One minute to go. Low kick from Green, who tries to throw against the fence. Rowe shoots, denied, gets dropped by a leg kick as he’s off-balance. Green landing ground-and-pound, looks for half guard. rowe sweeps at the bell. 10-9 Green.

Round 3: Rowe advancing to start the round, gets badly hobbled by a leg kick. Green marching after him, lands a glancing head kick. Rowe catches a body kick for a takedown. One minute in. Green looks for a heel hook, uses it to stand, gets dragged back down. Full mount for Rowe, looking for the arm triangle. Two minutes in. Green tries to take the back, gets stuck in half guard. Two minutes to go.

Rowe gets back to mount, looks for the arm triangle again. Green makes it back to his feet and they start trading. One minute to go. Hard low kick drops Rowe and Green follows him down with punches. Rowe scrambles back to his feet, eats an elbow. He shoots, denied. Another nasty low kick by Green, who sprawls on a late shot. 10-9 Green.

Final result: Green def. Rowe by unanimous decision
