After a one-year layoff due to COVID-19 the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev returned to action earlier today (Sat., Oct. 30, 2021) at live on ESPN+ from inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The man known as “Borz” collided with welterweight fighter Li Jingliang and didn’t disappoint, capturing his 10th pro win via first-round submission (rear-naked choke).
There were some questions surrounding Chimaev entering this fight after his documented bout with COVID-19, but the young sensation answered all of them. He immediately shot in for a takedown, picked Jingliang up, carried him over to the cage, and spoke with UFC president Dana White before slamming the Chinese fighter to the canvas.
Once down, Chimaev put himself in position to start landing some short punches. Jingliang ended up giving up his back and it allowed “Borz” to unload even heavier shots. Chimaev eventually switched things up and locked in the rear-naked choke. Jingliang went to sleep on his shield, but it was complete domination by Chimaev.
