Khamzat Chimaev got physical with Kevin Holland: ‘I grabbed his neck’

New, comments

Khamzat reflected on the good ‘ole days of getting into a physical altercation with fellow UFC fighter Kevin Holland.

Khamzat Chimaev is looking back on his run-in with fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter, Kevin Holland.

And it’s far from heartless.

Chimaev and Holland had a physical encounter inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, following UFC Vegas 6 back in Aug. 2020. Reports of the altercation between Chimaev (9-0) and Holland (21-7) emerged shortly after Holland’s technical knockout win over Joaquin Buckley (watch highlights), something Chimaev confirmed in a recent interview.

“Holland. He commented something under an Instagram post about me... He wrote something like, ‘It’s all good but where’s your mask? You can infect him.’ Something like that,” Khamzat Chimaev explained in an interview with ZubaTV. “I came up to him in the hotel and asked, ‘What did you mean by that?’ He answered, ‘I don’t really remember but what about it?’ Or something like that.

“I grabbed his neck and pushed him away,” Chimaev continued. “Then, when people were holding me, he started blah blah blah. Typical American thing. Just talking without doing anything.”

Chimaev — who won three consecutive UFC fights between July 16 and Sept. 19, 2020 — returns from a one-year layoff at UFC 267: “Blachowicz vs. Teixeira.” He will fight “The Leech” Li Jingliang (No. 11) on the ESPN+ main card, which will take place inside Etihad Arena on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, this weekend (Sat., Oct. 30, 2021).
