Benson Henderson was caught off guard after Bellator MMA matchmakers opted to make the upcoming rematch between Patricky Freire and Peter Queally — which headlines Bellator 270 in Dublin, Ireland on Nov. 5, 2021 — into a title fight after Patricio Freire vacated the title.
According to “Smooth,” he should’ve gotten some consideration given his ranking and past accomplishments. Now, another fighter is coming forward and expressing his disgust in the decision, as well. Brent Primus recently told MMA Fighting that the fact that two inconsistent fighters are fighting for the vacant title is laughable.
“There is only one thought and I have been saying it the whole time, I think it is a complete joke. Ha ha man. That is insane to me, you know? Patricky is coming off of two losses and is fighting for the world title. Queally, I was supposed to fight him and he got injured like a month or three weeks before that fight.
“Not only that, I think he’s fought like twice in the last three and a half years. I just don’t see how that makes sense at all, man. It’s crazy.”
“I am going to go out there and smash Benson Henderson and then I am going to call out the winner of that fight. That’s if Queally can even make it to that fight. He has a past record of getting injured. Again, it’s a complete joke. But whoever wins that fight, get ready because I am going to come after you.”
Primus is 2-1 in his last three fights inside the Bellator cage and is coming off a razor-thin split decision loss at the hands of Islam Mamedov at Bellator 260 earlier this year.
The former 155-pound champion will have a strong case to call for a shot at the strap if he can defeat Henderson — ranked No. 5 — tonight (Sat., Oct. 16) at Bellator 268 in Phoenix, AZ.
