Marina Rodriguez pulled out the biggest win of her professional career earlier tonight (Sat., Jan. 23, 2021) at UFC 257 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Etihad Arena on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., when the women’s strawweight contender put a stop to the highly-touted Amanda Ribas via second-round TKO (elbow and punches).
The first round was a little slow as Ribas gained top control and Rodriguez defended well to prevent any damage. In Round 2, Rodriguez was able to find her range on the feet and blasted Ribas with a massive counter right. Ribas fell to the ground and Rodriguez rushed in for heavy ground-and-pound. Referee Herb Dean looked to jump in for the stoppage, but ended up letting the fight go in an awkward sequence.
Luckily for Rodriguez, she kept her pursuit and ended up finishing Ribas again with a nasty elbow and barrage of punches.

Rodriguez came into this fight as a pretty sizeable underdog despite losing her first fight ever back in July to former UFC champion Carla Esparza. The Brazilian contender was sort of counted out for this main card clash with Ribas so it’s nice to see her prove the oddsmakers wrong and capture a win that should land her in an even bigger fight her next time out.
