Bellator 250: “Mousasi vs. Lima” took place Oct. 29, 2020, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. After Rafael Lovato Jr. was forced to relinquish the Middleweight title back in February last year because of health concerns, the vacancy at 185 pounds left an opening for former champion Gegard Mousasi to reclaim what had once been his.
You can’t win a fight without an opponent, though, and reigning Welterweight champion “The Phenom” Douglas Lima stepped up to accept the challenge. Despite the ostensible size difference between the two in weight class, they wound up being close in size on fight night with Mousasi holding one inch in height and several inches in reach on his foe.
Lima gave as good as he got for a fight that managed to go the distance and become an instant classic for Bellator MMA. Were it not for coronavirus restrictions, fight fans in attendance would surely remember it as one of the best fights at Middleweight not only for the promotion, but in all of mixed martial arts (MMA) last year.
