Darren Till may have to take a back seat to Conor McGregor.
After “The Gorilla” expressed interest in a potential showdown against Nick Diaz, “Notorious” one-upped him the following day. Indeed, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) “champ-champ” pulled out his smart phone, opened up his Twitter account and posted three simple words:
Line them up.
The tweet was in response to BT Sport posting a picture of the infamous Diaz brothers side-by-side after rumors of a potential return for Nick surfaced, setting the combat sports world buzzing.
Of course, McGregor’s bitter rivalry with Nate Diaz provided fight fans with two memorable bouts. At UFC 196, Nate shocked the world by submitting the fiery Irishman (see it again here). Months later at UFC 202, McGregor got his revenge via unanimous decision. Talks of a trilogy fight have been hot and cold since then, but not enough traction was ever gained.
As a result, Diaz is in talks to rematch Jorge Masvidal at UFC 257 in early 2021, while McGregor is currently enjoying the “retired” and engaged life. UFC President, Dana White, has already guaranteed that “Notorious” will not fight for him in 2020, which means a lot can happen from here until then that could get the ball rolling for either match up.
Nick, meanwhile, hasn’t competed in five years, but his manager is adamant he is now interested in what’s going on in UFC’s Welterweight division. Furthermore, he recently completed 14-week training and diet program that brought him back down to fighting shape.
With Nate seemingly in the process of locking down his next fight against “Gamebred,” UFC attempting to secure a big time a fight between McGregor and Nick seems like a win-win situation for all parties involved.
