Ovince Saint Preux and Alonzo Menifield faced off in a Light Heavyweight bout tonight (Sat., Sept. 5, 2020) at UFC Vegas 9 from UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a strong showing, Saint Preux scored a major knockout.
Menifield pushed forward immediately, looking to land his overhand. Saint Preux stuck a long cross, and then the two traded hooks. Clean left scored again for “OSP.” Big left hook connected for Menifield, who then jammed Saint Preux into the fence. Saint Preux escaped and fired a pair of left kicks. 2-1 connected for Saint Preux. Saint Preux’s left kick continued to land and keep Menifield off him. Good overhand scored for Menifield, but “OSP” wore it well. Menifield finished the round with a good sequence, connecting several times as Saint Preux chose to remain in the pocket for more than a brief moment.
Menifield attacked the inside leg to start the second, and he landed an overhand as a result. Saint Preux returned to the front kick to good success. “OSP” scored with the slowest spin kick of all time, but the snap kick moments later landed real hard. Saint Preux looked to line up the high kick, but he landed body kicks in the interim. “OSP” just kept digging into the mid-section, and Menifield did not fire back. Good right hook scored for Saint Preux, who went back to the well with the body kick. Menifield fired a big combination that came up short, but one of his right hands landed.
Suddenly, a counter right hook from Saint Preux sent his opponent slumped to the mat! It was a perfect one-punch knockout, reminiscent of the shot that put down “Shogun” Rua all those years ago.
Result: Ovince Saint Preux defeats Alonzo Menifield via second-round knockout
