Welterweight prospect Daniel Rodriguez kept things rolling earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 22, 2020) at UFC on ESPN 15 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when “D-Rod” came from behind to finish Dwight Grant via first-round knockout (punches).
This was not an easy win for Rodriguez as Grant clipped him with a filthy combination early into the first round that knocked “D-Rod” to the ground. Grant piled on heavy ground-and-pound that nearly forced the referee to step in, but Rodriguez survived the chaos to return to his feet. That’s when Rodriguez unloaded heavy hands on Grant and caught him with a crisp left hand along the cage. Rodriguez moved in for a few extra strikes and the fight was eventually called.
Check out the finish by Rodriguez above and the early knockdown by Grant below, both courtesy of UFC/ESPN.
With this performance, Rodriguez has now won his last nine pro fights and is 3-0 inside of the Octagon. “D-Rod” did get caught in this battle with Grant but ultimately proved that he can come from behind to win. It will be fun to see what the entertaining welterweight can do as he continues his climb up the 170-pound ladder.
