Rafael dos Anjos drops back down to Lightweight, meets Islam Makhachev at UFC 254 on Oct. 24

After spending the last 2.5 years competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight division, Rafael dos Anjos is dropping back down to Lightweight for his next fight inside the Octagon.

According to MMA Fighting, “RDA” will face Islam Makhachev at 155 pounds at the upcoming UFC 254 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Oct. 24, 2020, which is expected to take place on “Fight Island” located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Dos Anjos is coming off back-to-back losses to Michael Chiesa and Leon Edwards. Prior to that the former 155-pound champion picked up a huge win over Kevin Lee, which was preceded by consecutive losses to Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman.

Makhachev, meanwhile, has won six in a row and is 7-1 so far inside the Octagon. At 18-1 overall, Makhachev’s lone loss came against Adriano Martins, a first-round knockout defeat at UFC 192 back in 2015. A win over “RDA” could be what he needs in order to crack the Top 10.

UFC 254 will feature the highly-anticipated return of Lightweight title holder Khabib Nurmagomedov as he faces current interim division champion, Justin Gaethje, in a title unification match.
