Rising women’s strawweight contender Virna Jandiroba took her UFC stock to a new level earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 15, 2020) at UFC 252 live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the Brazilian fighter submitted veteran Felice Herrig via first-round armbar.
Jandiroba dominated from the opening bell as she secured a takedown in the middle of the cage. She quickly worked into full mount and started to pepper Herrig with heavy ground-and-pound. Herrig had to try something and ended up transitioning right into a Jandiroba armbar attempt. Jandiroba is super savvy on the ground so it didn’t take her long to extend the arm and force Herrig to tap for the first time in her career.

With this performance, Jandiroba notches her second-straight submission finish inside of the Octagon after losing her debut to Carla Esparza back in April of last year. The former Invicta FC strawweight champion looked real good against a returning Herrig, but she’ll have to show more moving forward to climb the ranks.
That said, it’s exciting to see a fresh face in a division dominated by current champion Weili Zhang.
