UFC Vegas 5 fell victim to another cancelled bout earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 1, 2020) live on ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, as middleweight Trevin Giles was deemed medically unfit to fight Kevin Holland after fainting backstage.

During the UFC Vegas 5 broadcast, it was announced that Giles fainted moments before his walkout to the cage. The middleweight prospect did not feel ill from the incident and it is believed that nerves came into play. Still, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and medical officials did not allow Giles to recover and make his walk to the Octagon.

This is unfortunate news considering this card saw many changes yesterday and even a late cancellation of Gerald Meerschaert vs. Ed Herman earlier tonight. Losing this main card opener without any notice is crushing.

Giles, 27, was hoping to win his second consecutive fight inside of the Octagon after defeating veteran James Krause back in February. Hopefully he makes a quick recovery and can reschedule his bout with Holland for later this month. Giles is currently 3-2 in UFC competition with two knockout finishes, one Fight of the Night performance, and two third-round submission losses.

This is being published before the rest of the main card plays out so hopefully the final four fights live up to the billing.
