Some may already consider Deiveson Figueiredo the UFC flyweight champion since he finished Joseph Benavidez back in February, but the Brazilian knockout artist failed to make weight for that bout and never got his hands on the gold belt. Luckily, Figueiredo will have another chance tomorrow night (Sat., July 18, 2020) at UFC Fight Island 2 live on ESPN+/ESPN from inside Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, when he takes on Benavidez in a rematch for the vacant 125-pound strap.
It isn’t the biggest main event of 2020, especially as the promotion comes off UFC 251 and its 1.3 million PPV buys, but Figueiredo vs. Benavidez 2 should still get the blood boiling. Not only was their first fight wildly entertaining for the two rounds it lasted, but the rematch has provided both fighters the opportunity to hone their skills for another clash of brain and brawn.
Leading into this weekend’s flyweight title reboot the promotion has opened its vault and released the best finishes in the UFC career of Figueiredo (shown above). As the most devastating power puncher in the flyweight division today Figueiredo has produced some memorable stoppages inside of the Octagon. From his aforementioned finish over Benavidez to his crushing TKO win over former title challenger John Moraga, the Brazilian fighter has quickly become the most violent fighter at 125 pounds.
After stepping on the scales early Friday (see it HERE) to make his title rematch with Benavidez official Figueiredo is ready to claim his first UFC world title. It will be up to Benavidez to prove that the first fight was a fluke.
