Jon Jones wants UFC to pay for Israel Adesanya super fight and Paulo Costa is having none of it

Jon Jones is not coming back to mixed martial arts (MMA) in 2020 and wants Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to stage a light heavyweight showdown between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz for the vacant 205-pound strap.

“Reyes vs. Jan for the UFC light heavyweight championship of the world,” Jones wrote on Twitter. “As of right now, I got nothing to really gain fighting either of them. Let me know if you guys want to set up a day in 2021 for that Izzy fight. Hopefully you guys will be willing to pay by then.”

After failing to secure a Francis Ngannou super fight in the heavyweight division, thanks to “greedy” UFC President Dana White, Jones (26-1, 1 NC) turned his attention to reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who spent the last few months picking a fight with “Bones.”

Paulo Costa may have something to say about that.

“Sorry JJ, I will erase Izzy in 2020,” the Brazilian said. “In 2021, I will erase everyone. Stay retired.”

Costa (13-0) is expected to get the next crack at the middleweight title at some point this summer, though nothing is official at this time. As for Adesanya (19-0), his team appears to be more interested in the heavyweight title, which may finally be back in play (according to this).

Jones vs. Costa in 2021 ... crazy talk?
