Another day, another last-minute hiccup Dana White and his matchmakers have to deal with. According to MMA Fighting, Kyle Nelson ran into visa issues while attempting to cross the border into the United States from Canada, forcing him to withdraw from his scheduled fight against Sean Woodson.
As a result, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) shuffled its fight card for the UFC on ESPN 12 mixed martial arts (MMA) event this weekend (Sat., June 27, 2020) inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, as Julian Erosa will step in to fill the void.
Erosa — who earned his initial spot on the UFC roster via the The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — was cut from the promotion one year ago following three straight defeats. Since then, Erosa has only competed once, defeating A.J. Bryant at CageSport 60 earlier this year.
Woodson, meanwhile, is undefeated thus far in his young MMA career (7-0, 1-0 UFC), winning his Octagon debut against Kyle Bochniak in Oct. 2019. Woodson got his first taste of UFC action on “Contender Series.”
UFC on ESPN 12 will be headlined by a Lightweight tilt between former interim champion, Dustin Poirier, taking on Dan Hooker. The co-main event will see Mike Perry take on Mickey Gall in Welterweight action.
