Things got off to an electrifying start at the UFC Jacksonville event tonight (Weds., May 13, 2020) live on ESPN+ from inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., as Chase Sherman made his triumphant return to the Octagon by absolutely brutalizing Ike Villanueva to earn a second round technical knockout.
Both men came out swinging from the jump, though “Vanilla Gorilla” got the best of the UFC newcomer, tagging him at will throughout the first five minutes. To his credit, Villanueva proved he could take a punch, as Sherman was unloading bombs left and right.
In the second round, though, Sherman dialed up the heat, clipping his fellow big man with one heavy shot after another, ultimately dropping him with a perfectly-placed elbow to force a referee stoppage. It was a great homecoming for “Vanilla Gorilla,” who took the fight on just six days notice.
