UFC 249 payouts: Tony Ferguson leads payday way with $500k

New, 26 comments

The official payouts for UFC 249 were recently released by Florida State Boxing Commission for those fighters competing at the UFC 249: “Ferguson vs. Gaethje” pay-per-view (PPV) event, held last Sat. night (May 9, 2020) inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Tony Ferguson was the top earner of the night, pulling in $500,000 for his technical knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in the five-round main event. “The Highlight” took home a cool $350,000 for his upset victory in the “Sunshine State.”

Bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo, who claims he’s retiring from MMA, also banked $350,000 for his finish over Dominick Cruz ($300,000). Perhaps “Triple C” wants to be paid as much as the rest of his championship brethren and to be honest, I don’t blame him.

Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, Reebok sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.

For example, the promotion often hands out extra cash for “Fight of the Night” and “Performance of the Night” bonuses, as well as the occasional (and undisclosed) locker room bonuses (sample here).
