Featherweight fighting sensation Cristiane Justino Venancio — better known to the mixed martial arts (MMA) community as Cris Cyborg — didn’t sign a “record-breaking contract” with Bellator MMA to not hit the ground running. She made her big promotional splash at Bellator 238 on Jan. 25, 2020, handing Julia Budd her first loss in eight years and taking her Featherweight title in the process.
Initially the biggest challenge for all involved would simply have been to find new challengers worthy of facing a champion who has only been knocked out once in her two decade career with a fearsome 22-2 (1 NC) record. Would it be former champion Budd (13-3), the streaking “Angerfist” Arlene Blencowe (13-7) — who had just notched her third straight win — or someone else altogether?
Thanks to the global pandemic we won’t find out for a long time now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find out what Cyborg is doing with her unexpected time off in this free Bellator #AloneTogether interview with broadcast team member Jenn Brown.
