White: Max Holloway vs Alexander Volkanovski rematch coming ‘very soon’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President, Dana White, recently told mixed martial arts (MMA) reporter, Helen Yee, that he’s working on the featherweight championship rematch between reigning division kingpin, Alexander Volkanovski, and former 145-pound titleholder, Max Holloway.

Fans can expect that booking “very soon,” according to White.

The decision to run it back after Holloway dropped a pretty convincing loss to Volkanovski at UFC 245 last December in Las Vegas is somewhat surprising. “Blessed” didn’t seem to be in any big hurry and “The Great” was already looking forward to a fresh challenger.

I guess this is how we’re doing things in 2020.

In fairness to Holloway, he went into the Volkanovski fight with 14 straight wins at featherweight, so when you consider his length atop the 145-pound throne, it’s hard to make a fuss about giving him an immediate rematch.

Which in turn may give fans a title eliminator bout between top-ranked contenders Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez.
