Ion Cutelaba and Magomed Ankalaev faced each other in a Light Heavyweight clash tonight (Sat., Feb. 29, 2020) at UFC Fight Night 169, which took place inside Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
Before the announcements even begin, these two briefly put hands on each other! Cutelaba delivers the early low kick. Side kick lands for Ankalaev, who then lands a right hook. A follow up pair of high kicks stuns Cutelaba, allowing Ankalaev to score with another combination. Cutelaba was wobbled but firing back ... and the referee suddenly stopped it.
It was a bad stoppage. Was Cutelaba hurt? Definitely. But, he was still swinging back heavy shots — even landing some of them! — and he immediately argued with the referee.
It’s a huge bummer.
Result: Magomed Ankalaev defeats Ion Cutelaba via first-round knockout
