UFC 247 injuries, medical suspensions: Valentina Shevchenko hit with extended sit following ‘H-Town’ beatdown

UFC 247 injuries and medical suspensions for the athletes who competed at the “Jones vs. Reyes”-led pay-per-view (PPV) event on Saturday (Feb. 8, 2020) from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, have been released by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) via MMA Fighting.

Leading the way in mandatory sits is Valentina Shevchenko, as she has been benched until Aug. 7, 2020. Unfortunately, TDLR did not release details regarding specific injuries, only revealing time-frames for potential returns. That said, it’s hard to tell just what kind of health setback “Bullet” suffered during her three-round beatdown of Katlyn Chookagian (recap here), which earned her successful title defense number three.

In the main event of the evening, Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, and Dominick Reyes went the distance, and after 25 grueling minutes (highlights), “Bones” escaped “H-Town” with his title. Both men also got off with minor 30-day sits.

Here’s the full list of suspensions from UFC 247:

Jon Jones: suspended until March 10.

Valentina Shevchenko: suspended until Aug. 7.

Khaos Williams: suspended until March 10.
Alex Morono: suspended until March 10.
Youssef Zalal: suspended until Feb. 18.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
